In the gold-mining town of "No Name City"(Clint gets a name in this one but the town doesn't),Ben Rumson(Lee Marvin) and "Pardner"(Clint Eastwood)have a 50/50 relationship all the way. They split the gold they find, they pay each other's debt's off, and pick each other up from druken stupors. Pardner seems to be doing most of the work on that end of things though! The town is filled with burly men, who haven't seen a woman in quite a while...That is until some Morman's come to town. The husband has one more wife than he needs and auctions Elizabeth(Jean Seberg) off to the men. The winner? Ben Rumson of course. But partners share everything you know...so Ben, Pardner, and Elizabeth become a trio.They just seem to fit right into this town without scruples. (11/18/08) Based upon T.H. White's beloved novel, this Disney-fied version chronicles the tutoring of the Once and Future King, Arthur, as handled by the magician Merlin. Sword was a portent of things to come, with slapstick upbraiding storytelling, and cultural in-jokes substituting for wonder. But there's much to enjoy here as Merlin shows Newt, the young Arthur, things that will help him become the ruler of the Britons. The transformation sequences, where the boy is turned into a fish, a bird, and a squirrel are vintage Disney. The oft-repeated scene of Merlin battling it out with the mean old Madame Mim still is worth a few chuckles, but it belies the problem with most of the film--the scenes are only there for the chuckles. References by Merlin to television and other items of modern life also mar the generally innocuous landscape. Children will like it, but they won't cherish it. --Keith SimantonSee less

DeMille's directorial skills were sometimes too rooted in the more grandiose style of the silent era, he CERTAINLY was ALWAYS a master showman, and his 1956 remake of "The Ten Commandments" is a whale of a show! Both pious and profane, posturing and sincere, it isn't great history, but it abounds in spectacle. While he was in poor health during the filming (suffering a seizure that was either a stroke or mild heart attack, while working under the 130-degree Egyptian sun), his distinctive 'style' was never more in evidence, with broad, overwrought performances, dazzling costumes and sets, monumental climaxes, and morals that are repeatedly hammered home. In 'classic' DeMille, there ARE no 'grays', everything is 'good' or 'evil', and 'evil' WILL be punished! Watching the film, you'll either enjoy the 'ride', or you'll groan, again and again. Personally, I love it, even with it's unintentional(?) campiness! Among my favorite 'so bad it's FUN' moments are 'Rameses' Yul...See less

You may want to buy this for that one cartoon unless you never picked up any of the other Disney Treasures DVDs. VOLUME TWO PEDRO (previously made available on as a part of the "Saludos Amigos" DVD) Papa Plane and Mama Plane ferry mail over the Andes mountains, but one day both Mama and Papa Plane get sick and can't go. Little Pedro is called on, and despite a big condor, a bigger mountain and a very big storm, Pedro saves the day. THE OLYMPIC CHAMP (previously made available on "Walt Disney Treasures: The Complete Goofy" DVD) Goofy gives his own hilarious history of the Olympics in this comical look at the famous sporting event. The shorts "Lambert, the Sheepish Lion", "Ben and Me", and "Freewayphobia 1 & 2" are only EXPECTED to be on the set - but not official yet. This set has been described in various websites as mainly containing Disney's "one-shot" cartoons. Disney called these one-shots "Specials", which generally replaced the earlier Silly Symphony cartoons. Generally, these cartoons did not star the regular Disney cartoon characters, such as Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc. The original silent Alice Comedies cartoons never interested me personally. I never found them that entertaining. However, they are interesting historically in seeing what Walt's animators did before Mickey Mouse. The Alice shorts on this DVD will probably be taken from the selection that was shown on the Disney Channel a few years ago. The following are the Specials shorts from the 1930s through the 1960s.
