(11/17/11) I've been using the Moleskine weekly planners for several years, and they are perfect for my needs (obviously, or I wouldn't keep buying them). The version I use is about 8" high, which might be too big for some people, but they also make a smaller version. For each two-page spread, one page has space for each day of the week and the other is lined, but otherwise blank, for notes, etc. The soft cover makes it flexible and easy to stash in a purse or briefcase, and the page marker is very convenient. There's also an elastic strap that holds the book closed when you're not using it. There's a pocket in the back for storing receipts, etc., as well as pages in the front of the book with such helpful info as international holidays and phone codes, etc. All in all, a great product.See less

(11/15/11) I tend to get cold easily but love being warm. I would layer it with a 650-fill down but only while light winter walking in the neighborhood and such. Nothing too active. Just how warm is this thing? I don't want to die sweating.. just stay ultra cozy warm doing daily things in the winter.See less

(11/15/11) In March the gypsies returned. This time they brought a telescope and a magnifying glass the size of a drum, which they exhibited as the latest discovery of the Jews of Amsterdam. They placed a gypsy woman at one end of the village and set up the telescope at the entrance to the tent. For the price of five reales, people could look into the telescope and see the gypsy woman an arm's length away. "Science has eliminated distance," Melquíades proclaimed. "In a short time, man will be able to see what is happening in any place in the world without leaving his own house." A burning noonday sun brought out a startling demonstration with the gigantic magnifying glass: they put a pile of dry hay in the middle of the street and set it on fire by concentrating the sun's rays. José Arcadio Buendía, who had still not been consoled for the failure of his magnets, conceived the idea of using that invention as a weapon of war. Again Melquíades tried to dissuade him, but he finally accepted the two...See less

(11/15/11) Nina Planck is a good, stylish writer and a dogged researcher who writes directly, forthrightly and with an edge. She isn't afraid to make the occasional wisecrack ("No doubt, for some people, cracking open an egg is one chore too many") while taking unpopular positions. Her chosen field-she is a champion of "real" (as opposed to industrialized) food-is one in which unpopular positions are easy to find. As Planck reveals, in her compellingly smart Real Food: What to Eat and Why, much of what we have learned about nutrition in the past generation or so is either misinformed or dead wrong, and almost all of the food invented in the last century, and especially since the Second World War, is worse than almost all of the food that we've been eating since we developed agriculture. This means, she says, that butter is better than margarine (so, for that matter, is lard); that whole eggs (especially those laid by hens who scratch around in the dirt) are better than egg whites, and that eggs...See less
