(09/27/11) Butter London Lady Muck Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.) is described as a “powdery periwinkle blue, slightly on the grey side and infused with pearl pigment for a soft, sexy sheen.” Whew, talk about a description! It’s a dusty, gray-blue with pale silver-white shimmer. It seemed most comparable to Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Concrete Jungle–but Lady Muck has pale silver shimmer. (You can compare this shade against other blues in the Swatch Gallery.) It was opaque in two coats, and it had a natural sheen to it, though I think the majority will still prefer a shiny top coat on top. Butter London’s formula on this one has a really even flow, smooth application, and drying time wasn’t long at all. I typically get a week of wear with Butter London’s formula with a proper base and top coat. I’ve always thought of periwinkle as something a little deeper, with more purple in the mix, compared to this dusty, grayed blue. I don’t even own any, though I imagine in the next year or two I’ll need to wear my glasses often enough that I’ll want to give contacts a try. I’m half Vietnamese, quarter Swiss, and quarter German. I don’t speak any of the languages associated with my ethnicity, unfortunately. I know a little French (though I took four years of it during high school), but I consider myself a language loser and only know one: English!See less

With the exception of Shelter Island, these colors are pretty unique and I hope to see Essie release more shades on this side of spectrum. *Channels images of green glitter a la Essie Ruby Slippers and Essie Starry Starry Nights to Essie Weingarten* (Just an aside, but has everyone gotten a load of the dark greens this season or what!?!?!?! (09/27/11) For fall, Butter London gives us four new shades of their 3-Free Lacquers ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.): All Hail McQueen, Bumster, Marrow (mixed for Vena Cava), and Victoriana (reminiscent of the Victorian era). The first two were inspired by the late Alexander McQueen. * All Hail McQueen is a medium beige brown with pale nude shimmer. I needed two coats for a really opaque, even finish. * Bumster is a creamy mustard yellow. One coat was almost enough, but two coats made it perfect. * Marrow is a muted grape purple that’s been grayed out–it’s not the vibrant shade you’d think of with the term “grape purple” but it’s so fitting. It has very subtle icy silver-white shimmer. Just two coats, though one was rather pigmented. * Victoriana is a toned down aqua-teal with soft silver and aqua shimmer. Two coats for even, opaque color. Butter London’s formula was on the thicker side, but it was very easy to apply and never felt goopy. (09/27/11) MAC Soiree Nail Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is a is a bright, light bronze metallic-frost with flecks of copper shimmer-glitter. It has a frost finish, and MAC officially describes it as a “sparkly light bronze gold.” While it’s a frost finish, it is also a bit metallic. This is really pigmented–swatches are shown with just one coat–and really easy to work with. It dries down quicker than most MAC polishes. It initially reminded me of Dior’s Timeless Gold, but it’s nowhere near it–warmer, darker, bronzer. Zoya’s Austine is the closest dupe I could come up with, but the finish is quite different, and Soiree is darker.See less
