Like another reviewer, I had to go through 2 orders before getting a machine that wasn't broke. The first order, which comes by ground (free shipping route), delivered a saw that had a section of the base metal completely busted off from the rest of the frame. Specifically, a triangular section on the bottom which houses one of the angle stops. (Also, two of the tools were missing as well). After having to explain to Amazon that a "replacement part could not be ordered," they finally overnighted me a replacement. I did get a chance to use the first saw because I had wood to cut and I wasn't going to wait. And, I definitely was NOT impressed with the laser. I could hardly see it in broad daylight or in the shade. Nonetheless, I decided to give the replacement a benefit of the doubt--thinking that when the package got dropped, it did something to the laser as well. I've used an 8 1/2" sliding compound saw professionally as a trim carpenter for many years and have been hoping the Hitachi 10" sliding would get the fine digital feature on this 12" - or that this 12" would now go a little further and incorporate the soft start/ and brake features in the 10" motor --- it is really nice you've added the dual bevel so please don't get me wrong. Now come on Hitachi, you'll really make us proud when you bring all these great features together - in asliding and a chop version! Until then I'm hoping to hold out with this old reliable friend, my 8 1/2" Hitachi. Anyway, thanks Hitachi and here's to the future upgrades I know your elves are working on... While this isn't the lightest 12-inch saw available, at only 43 pounds it's still plenty portable, and comes with a cushioned top handle for easy carrying to and from the truck. Considering how solid and stable this tool is, and the amount of metal making up the base and table, we were actually surprised to find that it weighs as little as it does.
