Maybe I'll take a train up the Hudson when I go to NYC in the next couple months. ETA: Made a reservation for 4/5. Going to NYC 4/3-4/6.

Hey, Dan Barber won the Beard award for chef of the year. Sweet! Our meal here was indeed quite special. Probably the best meal I've had so far.

I think it would be better if Dan Barber won the Beard of the year award.

That's all I have to say. Turnips and cauliflower on spikes. Yes!

ETA 1/5/09: Reservation made for Valentine's Day. W00t.

Dude, so tasty - Despite them charging an extra $55 per person for Valentine's Day and some amusingly inept service (seriously though, a 2-star Michelin restaurant shouldn't make simple mistakes like giving us the wrong wine or giving us the neighbouring table's course (there were four missteps, I think)), the food was delicious. The wine pairings were good but I wasn't blown away by anything (I'm still giving Gary Danko the award for best wines served and best job pairing them with the courses). Heh, wow, it sounds like I didn't like it as much as I did... It was really tasty food, though, man. Highlights were the crab melt (with pea sprouts, which are my new favourite thing), the parsley root-green garlic soup with braised snails and breakfast radish, the beef (pastured beef cooked in its fat), the twelve month cheddar on rye bread with cabbage and mustard, and the douglas fir ice cream with blood orange curd and walnut crumble.

We ate the food really quickly, as we were running late for a show at the Fox Theatre across the street, but it was good from what I recall. And the drinks were good...which we know because I was drunk...which isn't helping me to remember the food all that well...

Had brunch here on 2/1. Really tasty. Good drinks (we had French 75s and St-Germains), friendly enough service that was unobtrusive and casual (we were the last ones in the place after a 2.5 hour brunch and they didn't hover or try to rush us out at all), good food. We had the "Pop Tart" and bacon, which are the things the brunch here is known for and they were good (the bacon especially). We also split the French toast and poached eggs/duck dish. Both very good as well. For dessert we got the full cheese plate as well as a peach melba thingie and espresso and port. Lots of food and drinks for $160, after tip. I want to go here once a month now! :) No real interest in going for dinner, though.

Sat next to Adam from Mythbusters here this morning. :)

Awesome. Did he blow anything up, or at least light something on fire?

Apparently owned/run/whatever by some broad who was on Top Chef. As I don't watch Top Chef, I don't care. Anyway, went here one early evening a few weeks ago and found it just okay. The drinks were good, though.

Went again a few weeks ago - They do make a mean hamburger.

Ate here 2.17.08. A very tasty dinner. Had the "prestige menu." The highlight was probably the scallop/pork belly dish. And you can never really go wrong with a cheese course. Attentive, knowledgeable staff, from the hostess to the manager. A really wonderful dining experience.

Bouchon

Comments (6)

Ate here 1.24.09. Really tasty. Well-done Parisian bistro food from Thomas Keller. Had the salmon pot-au-feu as well as some oysters, celery root and apple soup, and a couple mousse desserts. Others had trout, gnocchi, and some veggie sides. Everyone was pleased with their food. Also, a good cocktail, beer, wine, and spirits selection. The macarons and other tasty treats from the bakery next door were also very tasty. Good job, Bouchon.

I've been here, and had the oysters for an appetizer. They were very good, but the California ones had an extreme flavor of "ocean".

Mmm, sea water! :)

Yeah, it was a bit harsh... The other ones were "frakkin" good though. It was nice to go "oot" to a nice restaurant that didn't feel too pretentious.

Yeah. It has a nice vibe. The best fancypants places have fun staff who are there to make you feel comfy and aren't snooty or trying to make you feel out of place. Gary Danko was good for that too.

Hahaha, the waiter and I had a conversation about Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor.

Ate here 5.28.08. ETA: Another reservation for 3/8/09 (my birthday!)

A solid meal. Everything was tasty though I don't think anything was remarkable, at least not in a way where you're, like, "Holy crap! That was amazing." Everything was just really good and tasty, which is really wonderful. Much better than a tasting menu situation where things are sort of hit-or-miss. The service was impeccable - Friendly and super-knowledgeable staff who were always on top of things without being intrusive at all. The only thing that could be said was that the courses came a little quickly, considering how much food we ordered. We opted for the select your own 5-course meal (and a wine pairing) and were completely stuffed at the end. If I went again, which I would, I'd probably plan a little better and get a few lighter courses instead of what I did get (foie gras, frogs' legs, bison, cheese (sooooo good!), and a really interesting olive oil cake for dessert). Pricey, as you'd expect, but a really lovely evening all around.

Went again last night for my birthday. I had...* Glazed Oysters with Osetra Caviar, Salsify and Lettuce Cream*Roast Maine Lobster with Potato Purée, Blood Oranges, Edamame Beans and Basil *Quail Stuffed with Onion, Foie Gras, Pine Nuts and Quinoa, Wild Mushroom Risotto Cake and Pomegranate Sauce (sooo good!)*Cheese course *Trio of Crème Brûlée with Cookies (they were full-sized crème brûlées!)Everything was super-tasty once again and the service was great too. Yay, Gary Danko!

Went once before and found it not bad, but not great. I tend to frequent a dive steakhouse and felt like this fancier steak had minimal flavour. But, I'm going to give it a shot again tonight. :)

Went again and had a much better experience. I'd go back again for sure, based on the second meal I had here.

Chris ate here semi-recently and said it was really good, so I've decided to try it out. Reservation for 4/5.

Eh. So, new chef = not so great, apparently. There was nothing bad about the food but it wasn't spectacular or really outstanding in any way. Also, the decor needs some serious work. And the staff was sort of attitude-y. But, the restaurant is quiet (sometimes a little too quiet - and it really cleared out by the time our 8:30 reservation was through) and was conducive to conversation, etc.

Ate here 12.8.07. Friends (and reviews) have said this is much more "intellectual" than "instinctual" food, but I'm still stoked to try it. I mean, fried mayo. Really, that's all I have to say about that.

More misses than hits, probably, but still an entertaining dining experience.
