Well, I so far haven’t gotten anybody to take me up on my earlier request to help me build the vending machine I described in my earlier posting, so it looks like I am going to have to try and do it myself. If anyone wants to collaborate with me, send me an email. This posting describes my progress so far. What I’ve created and described below is a demo of a vending machine where the purchase is made at one vending machine and the item is delivered to the purchaser from a different central vending machine server. All the remote server has is a notecard which describes the item in the central server. There are two scripts used in this demo: RemoteVendor.lsl and VendorServer.lsl. I'll show how to build and develop on Linux, and eventually cross-compile so that the client is available for users of other platforms as well. To run the client, your system needs reasonable 3D hardware and a moderately fast CPU; of course, faster is always better. For Linux builds, the program requires direct rendering support in hardware; most nVidia or ATI graphics cards are supported by some version or another of the drivers. Initial testing by Linden was done on Debian, Fedora Core 4, and Knoppix; I tested on SUSE 10.1, but you are encouraged to use the distro of your choice and can report problems to the Linden developer support forums (see Resources for a link). These mannequins were carefully hand-made by yours truly. Now, I know what you are saying "So? I could just buy a mannequin for L$100 and be done with it. Why do I need your product" Well, lemme give you a few reasons. 1: You wanna leave it out when you log off? Simply delete the floating hi-prim mannequin (I think the female is 96 prims) and let the item sit in all its 4-prim glory. 2: Wanna see how it fits?
