Fast forward to the present day: Web 3.0 is awash in enough sleek sans serif and classic roman typefaces to make designers long for the typographic indulgences of yesteryear. Those of you who find me a bit wordy (looking at you, Whalen) are going to get a break today. I was struggling for an idea for a post all morning. Frustratingly struggling, in fact. I even called some people to vent about it. And then I came across the video embedded below via Twitter. Watch it. You might cry. You may get up and dance. You may break into instantaneous giggle fits. You may even be slightly horrified. But while you’re watching and tapping your feet, notice the look in the attendees’ eyes. Hear their laughs. Look at the faces of the bride and everyone else involved. Feel what’s happening in that room. That’s what happens when you do something people aren’t expecting. When you don’t allow yourself to get caught up in the pomp and circumstance of it all. When you finally stop taking yourself so seriously. I’m sure you’ll agree that most successful people today who make a positive contribution are creative thinkers who face challenge head on and allow themselves to explore, learn, and grow. Just look at Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, Steven Hawking, Russell Simmons, even Heidi Klum (who has quite an interesting bio), and you will see a theme. To make a skirt of four panels in two alternating colors, you will need 1.5 yards of each color. (This assumes that the bolt width is a minimum of 45 inches.) 2. Cut a length of string, twine, or dental floss 40 inches long. With your glue gun, put a dab of hot glue toward the bottom of a pencil (just above where the pencil begins to taper to the point) and wrap the string around once or twice. Starting from where the string is attached to the pencil, measure 7 inches of string and tie a knot there. Then measure an additional 28 inches of string (for a total of 35 inches of string) and tie a second knot at that point. 3. Lay a piece of felt out on the floor or a work surface. Ask a friend to hold the first knot at one corner of the fabric, and draw an arc from that point. Have your friend hold the second knot at the same corner, and draw another arc. Repeat... See less

Bloggers create 900,000 blog posts a day worldwide, and some of them are actually making money. Blogs with 100,000 or more unique visitors a month earn an average of $75,000 annually—though that figure is skewed by the small percentage of blogs that make more than $200,000 a year. The estimates from a 2007 Business Week article are older but juicier: The LOLcat empire rakes in $5,600 per month; Overheard in New York gets $8,100 per month; and Perez Hilton, gossip king, scoops up $111,000 per month. In this month’s Metropolitan Home, I learned that noted architect , Jeffery Povero, who used to build many a library when working for Robert A.M. Stern, also knows a thing or two about making the most out of prevailing light. In order to make a room seem larger, Povero mirrored the window recesses, a way to take advantage of views and light. He also utilized opposing paint colors: Benjamin Moore’s Iron Mountain and white in the recesses to dematerialize at the edges.
