I'll be honest, I never liked Tool. I always admired Maynard James Keenan and thought he was an amazing vocalist, but I never really got into Tool. Their sound just didn't appeal to me. But I when I heard Mer De Noms, I immediately fell in love with A Perfect Circle. In fact, I love A Perfect Circle so much that I can easily call them one of my favorite bands. Their sound varies significantly from Tool and other Hard Rock bands. A Perfect Circle's music is very brooding and eloquent...they create a very dark atmosphere that really pulls you into the songs. Maynard further proves how amazing a vocalist he is as he brings the haunting lyrics to life with hypnotic and trance-inducing vocals. His talent really shines in the amazing ballad "Orestes", the first single "Judith", and my favorite song on the album, "Thinking Of You". I purchased this CD when i heard the song "Complicated". I truly enjoyed that song and was expecting a lot from Avril. I was not disappointed. Here is a song by song account of what this album has to offer. 1.Losing Grip- A guitar driven pop song. It is something unusual to find in a teen pop artist. Lots of Avril's lyrics can apply to many different situations, that is what I like about this song. I like that it's angry but not to the point of Alanis, there is still a sweetness, she's angry but she's over it and will survive. 2.Complicated- I'm not going to go into detail explaining this song, we've all heard it or you wouldn't be reading this review. I remember reading an article when Pink was recalling the mini-disaster that was Try This, and how she knew she was spitting out really lackluster songs (save for Catch Me When I'm Sleeping). Pink has really made up for that by releasing I'm Not Dead. Each and every song has Pink's personality all over it, and if you like it, you won't be disappointed. From Pink's radio-driven Stupid Girls, where she attacks our society and its adjoined stupidity, to the thoughtful, convicting "Dear Mr. President", which is deep enough to make the strongest Republican melt. I'm glad that Pink wrote that song and didn't portray herself as an "in-your-face know-it-all". But she is very educated, and it comes through in an honest attempt to put all the jokes and the sneering aside and really face the issues that plague our country. Stephen Lynch has done it again when it comes to making an outrageously hilarious and extremely offensive album full of twisted and bizarre songs that will have your jaw on the ground. In the tradition of "A Little Bit Special," Stephen Lynch's "Superhero" is full of some of the sickest and crudest songs your little ears will ever hear. Lynch was a favorite on the Opie and Anthony show (boy, I really miss those guys), always bringing a guitar and coming up with some very funny and offensive songs. Most of the time they had to bleep him because of swearing or language that wasn't appropriate for the radio. Don't let his innocent looks and sweet tone fool you, this guy is vicious when it comes to hilarious songs. This greatly improves on that disc by adding 7 tracks, and having better packaging. Of course the obvious songs are here like "No Rain", "Tones Of Home", and "Soup". Also good though is "Time", "Three Is The Magic Number", and "2 x 4". It's a nice change to hear the "No Rain (ripped away version)" as well. I think this proper collection is an excellent way for casual fans to see that Blind Melon was more than just the band with the bee-girl video. Shannon and the group were indeed underrated. If you like TSO's Christmas music but want to hear their style when it is not the holidays, this is the only option for now. (A new album - Night Castle - is scheduled for release later this year.) A rock opera in the style of the 70's, but with TSO's unique sound of course, the production has nine lead vocalists (six major ones), nine back up vocalists and a children's choir. In addition to the TSO pianos, keyboards, guitars and drums, there is also a 10 piece string ensemble, which added all together sounds very good most of the time. One of the main characters is a Theresa (who was an actual love interest earlier in B's life) and her three songs (tracks 10, 12 and 15) are outstanding. The section before the very end seems contrived (the devil brings a suffering child in the street into his deal which doesn't make sense to me) and then a bunch of things happen that are not in song, only writing in the insert. But the work still gets four stars for an overall enjoyable listen. Also... See less
