Prima Princessa, Fairy Princess Ballerina Presents Swan Lake Kids Ballet DVD, featuring the Paris Opera Ballet and Students from the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, the official academy of the New York City Ballet,is an animated story of a ballerina who appears to a group of real children and magically transports them to watch a live performance of Swan Lake, performed by Paris Opera Ballet, a professional dance company. Prima Princessa then narrates the story of Swan Lake so the children can understand the ballet. Between acts, the children come home where they dress up in tutus, learn a ballet step from both Prima Princessa and older children from the Paris Opera Ballet and Students from the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, the official academy of the New York City Ballet. Little Thumb is a delightfully humorous story told partly from the thumb's perspective that includes a positive, playful plot and imaginative suggestions for engaging one's thumb. Having taught preschool for 20 years, I was glad to see Ms. Dionne address this sensitive, timeless topic so creatively. And the illustrations are charming and colorful. Lichtenheld (What Are You So Grumpy About?) sets aside the color spreads of his previous titles for simple line drawings based on a visual pun. The book's hero is a little stick figure whose head is the O of OK, and whose arms and legs are the K. (Imagine the word OK tipped up on its side.) The scenery is similarly minimal: a black horizon line, a squiggly tree, some grass. I like to try a lot of different things, the OK figure says. I'm not great at all of them, but I enjoy them all the same. On each succeeding page, the stick figure turns in a series of OK performances, roasting a marshmallow, cutting a sandwich not really in half (I'm an OK sharer), and looking at the result of his fishing—a tangle of seaweed and a boot. One day, I'll grow up to be really excellent at something, OK says, while lying in bed. I don't know what it is yet... but I sure am having fun... See less
