(05/29/09) I decided a year ago I was ready to "move up" to a better electric guitar than the ones I have, primarily because I'd like to start gigging. Since I play jazz, I have looked at traditional jazz boxes and semihollow bodies. When I learned about the T5, I was eager to try one, since I own a Taylor 314-CE that is a joy to play. When I tried the T5, I was disappointed. I couldn't find the jazz sound I wanted. Perhaps it was because the store personnel had me playing through acoustic amps. Then a few nights ago I watched the T5 videos at the Taylor web site. The next day I went out and tried both a koa top and a spruce top played through a Roland Cube 60 set at the JC and black panel settings. I set the T5s with the bass turned up and the treble turned down. I also set the pups to the 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions. This time I was impressed: considering that the strings were round wounds, not flat wounds, I was able to get a very acceptable jazz sound. While the koa top is drop-dead gorgeous,...See less
