The Trek-Tech answers many of the problems associated with carrying tripod v's monopod. Of course, it does not provide the height, but it packs away very neatly into the camera backpack. Based on the gorillapod concept, it is a very well made product, which has been given some careful design thought. It looks reasonably durable - not having been put to the test yet - and the magneticjoint, which is also locked into position, holds a Nikon DSLR very securely.
