The pink and brown interior with matching chandelier and vintage artwork makes a lovely setting for formal tea, served weekdays by reservation only. Tea tasting menus offer a variety of petit fours, sweet breads and savory sandwiches. Dinner items are less dainty: The kobe beef burger is topped with Normandy goose foie gras and truffle mayo on a brioche bun. Duck fat frites with smoked sea salt make a rich accompaniment. Lighter fare includes tomato bread soup and curried potato vichyssoise with chervil salad and creme fraiche. The fixed price menu is seven-courses at dinner. Sunday brunch includes roasted pear griddle cakes and red wine poached eggs with mushroom and shallot ragu and toasted brioche (also fixed price). The menu features sushi (nigiri and maki) and a selection of hot and cold Asian small plates. The chopstick rolls --two long, deep-fried eggrolls filled with shitake mushrooms, water chestnuts, cream cheese and roasted garlic -- signal a crisp start to the meal. In the mood for seafood? Inventive maki rolls include: Latin Heat (smoked salmon, super white tuna, jalapeno pepper, avocado, cilantro and sesame seeds) and Tropic Thunder (yellowtail tuna, wasabi mayo, shitake mushrooms, mango, avocado and sesame seeds). Small plates include fish and chips (tempura battered, deep-fried halibut strips with sweet potato fries). The Bourgeois Pig caters to an intellectual crowd that enjoys chess, books and challenging philosophical discussions. The cozy cafe's book-lined brick walls and well-worn wooden tables give it an 18th Century atmosphere. The menu makes it obvious this is a mecca for literary enthusiasts: "The Sun Also Rises" is smoked turkey grilled on sundried tomato bread with hummus, Swiss cheese, tomato, sprouts and onion; "Hamlet" is smoked Kentucky ham and brie on a mini-baguette; "The Old Man and the Sea" is tuna salad made with fresh dill, red onion, celery and sprouts on multigrain bread, topped with lettuce and tomato.
