(03/23/10) Here is a fun fact about me you don’t know. I have eighteen nieces and nephews with one more due to arrive in May. Isn’t that crazy? The youngest of them is Isaiah. He is such a great kid and I am so proud to be his Auntie! Yesterday my sister and brother-in-law hosted a fabulous party celebrating his 1 yr Birthday with 150 of their closest friends and family. Part of my birthday gift to my sweet nephew was to make a small birthday cake he could eat all to himself. When trying to come up with ideas on what type of cake to make I had a difficult time trying to “figure it out”. There was no theme for the party other than the colors yellow and grey. I also wanted to come up with a design complimenting the style of Isaiah and his parents. My nephew has the cutest Converse All-Star sneakers and when I saw them last week I instantly knew I had found my inspiration. I asked if I could bring his shoes home with me and from there I started to make mental notes of how I would re-create them.See less

I guess we shouldn’t underestimate your talent I don’t even know what “social justice advocacy” looks like on a day-to-day basis…. I hope to find out soon! * ann star Says: May 10th, 2008 at 2:48 pm you know, i feel like fondant should taste a lot better for how fancy it is… or maybe that’s why it doesn’t taste that great… i dunno. your cupcakes looked awesome. as did your mom’s cookies!! I hope they do make video games for first generation gamers. * Debbie Frederick Says: May 12th, 2008 at 4:56 am Those cupcakes and cookies taste as awesome as they looked!!! (06/25/09) It's that time of the year again! That time when you fuel capitalism, and the bellies of florists everywhere! It's easy to get stuff for girls; you just get a box of Whitman's from your local drug store, slap on a sticky note on it, and she's all over you like oatmeal on cholesterol. We're saps like that. Even with all the seemingly endless lists of gift ideas, however, every year I still have trouble getting coming up with something romantic yet original for the love of my life. What do you get a nerdy, geeky, techy boy that loves video games and has an obsession for collecting roms backups? I don't want to get him computer parts again. Well, this year it hit me. My boy loves video games. My boy also loves cupcakes with home-made frosting. Why not combine the two?! That's right, folks. Those are super mushroom, 1-up mushroom, and goomba mother-effing cupcakes. Now, I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this idea, but I'm quite proud of it, still. (You can learn how to make your...See less

(02/12/09) Candy sushi is made like regular sushi, but use fruit roll-ups, Rice Krispy "dough" and gummy candy, such as jelly worms. Here are some helpful tips: 1) You will find the rice krispie dough recipe on the side of any Kellogg's Rice Krispies box 2) Make only half a recipe of rice krispie dough at a time, since you will want to use it while it is still warm and malleable 3) Pre-peel the fruit roll-ups from their plastic and otherwise fully prepare all equipment and ingredients before making the rice dough 4) Line your sushi rolling mat with a piece of cellophane to keep the fruit roll-up from sticking 5) After they cool, use a very sharp knife for cutting rolls (as you also would for real sushi) 6) They are best the same day, and not refrigerated. Otherwise, they get unacceptably chewy. For sushi rolling instructions with illustrations: http://www.mediterrasian.com/cuisine_of_month_sushi.htm Sushi rolls, before cutting. The purple one on the right was rolled in flavoured, coloured sugar.See less

Unwrap Swedish Fish and Fruit by the Foot and set to side. Prepare a baking sheet with wax paper. 2. Melt butter and marshmallows together. 3. Once melted together reduce heat and gently stir in Rice Krispies. 4. Keep mixture warm and pliable and immediatly start forming into sushi-sized balls (or a little bigger). (02/12/09) Grease a 12- by 17-inch baking sheet. Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until smooth. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the rice cereal until it's evenly coated. Turn the baking sheet so that the shorter ends are at the top and bottom. Then press the marshmallow mixture onto the sheet, distributing it evenly. Starting at one side an inch up from the lower edge, place gummy worms atop the mixture end to end in a hortizontal line. Gently roll the lower edge of the marshmallow mixture over the gummy worms. Then stop and cut the log away from the rest of the mixture. Use the same method to form 4 more logs. Slice each log into 1-inch-thick "sushi" rolls and wrap them individually with a strip of fruit leather. Makes 4 to 5 dozen.See less

(02/11/09) It all began democratically with a vote amongst the young people for the preferred snack for pimping. The Toffee Crisp came out top, though some of the girls suggested a Galaxy. "But that's just chocolate." The lads pointed out. "Exactly." They replied. So Toffee Crisp it was Planning, planning, planning. The analysis had to be meticulous to ensure that the Pimping Saturday would run as smooth as melted chocolate off the back of a spoon, so a pimp dossier was compiled. A Toffee Crisp underwent the most thorough examination and trials, involving much measuring and tasting and a small scale prototype pimp. The descriptions of the existing pimps on Pimpthatsnack were also consulted (thank you everyone for this excellent anthology of snack pimp knowledge). This is a chocolate bar; not sponge, jelly and custard. It's not to be trifled with. Though a pimped trifle is not a bad ideaSee less

(02/11/09) I am a fan of the Rubik cube. I first got a cube as a 12 year old in England back in 1980 and have been hooked ever since. At my local pub there was a competition for the gentlemen who were regulars to bake a cake. The prize would be awarded on presentation, creativity and taste. It was my wife's idea to combine my love of the cube with cake making and so was born - The Rubik Cake.See less

(02/11/09) We’ve been dying to do our pimping thing, so what better opportunity than a Bank Holiday Sunday! What to make? – easy, we all love Oreos. Oreos O Oreos, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. With milk With coffee In milkshake or icecream On their own As a mid morning snack As a midnight snack Etc etc etc ….. Well since Oreos are already perfect, the only way to improve on perfection is to make them bigger !! 1. Last minute (well, 20 minutes before closing) trolley dash round Somerfields to assemble ingredients …….. we had 2 different recipes, courtesy of www.recipezaar.com (almost Oreos) and www.dvo.com/recipe_archive (oreo cookies) so we thought we’d go with the first one (the easiest) to make the base, and switch tactics if it turned out a bit sloppy to make the top complete with ornamentation. Some of the ingredients might thus be a bit doubled up 2. Into the faithful old Kenwood Chef we go with our first packet of cake mix , 2 eggs, a couple of spoons of vegetable fat (Flora,...See less
