(03/07/11) 1. Flatten your styrofoam ball by gently pressing against a table’s surface. This will be helpful later, to keep the owl from rolling. 2. Print out the Owl One Template. Cut out each piece. Begin by tracing and cutting out your feathers (this is number 3 in the owl one template) from your felt squares. You may want to cut out two different colors of feathers, depending on the owl you may have in mind. Glue the felt feathers onto the styrofoam ball, starting from the bottom and go up. Stagger and glue on the feathers on top of one another until you have almost reached the the top of the styrofoam ball. Since owl two does not have a head covering, cover the entire styrofoam ball with feathers. One color should be used for the front of the owl and the other color should be used as the backside of the owl. 3. To make owl one’s face cut out shapes 1, 2, and 5 from the owl one template in felt of your choice. To make the beak of the owl, cut a feather out of brown felt. Place and glue the...See less

(03/07/11) Lay the second color (blue) over the first color (coral). Pull the second color (blue) from under the same link and over the top left again. Repeat the steps, moving onto a new link: put the first color (coral) on top of the second color (blue) and pull it out from under the 2nd link and over the top left. Lay the second color (blue) on top of the first color (peach) and pull it out from under the 2nd link and over the top left again. Because the links of this particular bracelet are large, I wove the threads through twice on each link. If you are using a smaller linked bracelet, you should weave through each link once like this.See less

(03/07/11) I love this bracelet and just finished making one! I did find it a little tricky at first but once you get the feel of it, it gets easier. One tweak I would make to the directions is the measurements. I have really small wrists and following the directions exactly as they are given above, I couldn’t even close the bracelet around my wrist once. So I upped the initial braiding part to two inches, added all 18 of the hex nuts and then (because I did want it to wrap around my wrist twice) I just continued braiding almost all the way down the rest of the string until I reached the length that I wanted. I think its also useful to add that the size of hex nuts really does matter. I used a size 6 and I think anything over a 10 might be too loose. Thanks for the idea!See less

(03/07/11) When Erica and I spotted tassels, tassels, tassels and more tassels accessorizing the Spring 2011 collections, there was no doubt that we wanted to do a DIY incorporating this beloved fringe ornament. And of course, it only made sense to call upon Tamar, the other half of Erica’s The 2 Bandits and tassel expert, to help us out. Inspired by the tassels seen in Sonia Rykiel and Gucci‘s Spring Collections, we’ll teach you how to make a tassel belt with leather and a few items from the hardware store.See less

(03/07/11) To make a 2-tone necklace, cut a long piece of rope and wrap two different colors of embroidery thread around its own bobbin. Tie a starter knot along with the two colored threads you are using, leaving at least 3 inches of slack, Tape down the slack to a flat surface or safety pin it something that will help keep it in place (feeling nostalgic yet?). Lay the color that isn’t being used (shown here in purple) in your left hand, along with the rope, and hold them taut. Take the active color (shown here in red) in your right hand, pass it over the rope, loop it under and back through the opening. Pull up and to the right to tighten. Repeat the knots until you are ready to switch colors. (Click images to enlarge)See less

(03/07/11) I am ALL about Oil CLoth! Cut a large piece to fit your kitchen table for instance, staple it all around underneath the table and you have a bright and lively surface. Use it to make place-mats, or coasters, you can line a tray with oil cloth to spruce it up, you can skin a cork board with it and hang it on your wall, you can skin a three ring binder with it and use that to store papers- literally endless uses! All perfect for renters or short term living situations! I am so excited to read the book!See less
