It is pleasantly solid in cast and fabricated sterling silver. The locket is held shut by the trunk of the aorta, which acts as a snap. The chain is a 24"" chain which attaches to the pendant through the superior vena cava and left pulmonary vein, causing the heart to hang slightly anterioinferiorly. Until the end of January I will be out of the wheat chain in the photo and will be putting the locket on a link chain. The Birdies measure 26mm X 29mm (just over an inch in length & width). About the Barrettes: I use 1" long-catch barrettes; a 36mm clasp with teeth keeps your hair in place. How much hair can these cuties hold securely? I have thick tresses & I find these barrettes work best for pulling back smaller sections of hair. They’re great for growing out bangs, holding up those forever straggling bits of hair that won’t stay put in your ponytail, or simply as a bit of hair-do decor. I recommend using a 2 or 3 side-by-side if you want to hold back a larger amount of hair. If your hair is on the thinner side, you can probably get away with a lot more hair holdage. These spat-like pieces are one of the results. they are hand needle tatted with elements of vintage patterns and original designs in black cotton thread. The lace itself measures 7.5" with a degree of stretch. Since it laces up the back with ribbon they should fit most people. If your leg is significantly larger, you may provide measurements so that I can modify the design for a better fit. Please note, this will be at a small additional charge however.
