After having listened to the soundtrack LP any number of times it was a little disconcerting to actually see the original movie! The difference between the two movies, and it's the same difference going on between the soundtracks too, is that in the first movie the songs kep getting better and better, until it exploded into the sublime one-two knockout punch of BREAKING FREE and WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER--and then this one, where the best songs are all in the front, and after halftime, it just delivers one disappointment after another. I don't even know if I like Troy's new voice, which I understand is the real voice of everyone's favorite new star Zac Efron. On some of the tracks on HSM2 it just sounds so overproduced it could by anybody's. (The producers use this to strange effect in "Bet On It," in which Troy runs around the resort outskirts, sings parts of "Bet On It," and seems to listen to other of his own voices echoing himself in the background, coming out of the sky to give...
