Soil: 'October Glory' tolerates sandy, wet, or clay soil, but thrives in moist, slightly acidic conditions. Watering: Aim for 1 inch of water per week during the first year. In northern climes, irrigate until the ground freezes. During dry periods, water established trees every 7 to 14 days. Fertilizing: Use a complete fertilizer in early spring at a rate of 2 pounds of fertilizer per 1 inch of trunk diameter. Follow up with a second application at the same rate in late summer.
