(12/28/10) The Cube Fontaine is a détournement of the cult Rubiks cube, it replaces the different colour fields of each face with that of a view of the surface of the sea and/or ocean. The pictures of the waves present on the six faces of the cube get dissociated and fragmented as the object is manipulated and they create currents and compositions visually contradictory, similar to a blown up and pixelised image of a unique surface of the sea that we cannot recognize. The sculpture plays on the contrast between the solid and geometric elements of the Rubiks cube and the liquid and changing element suggested by the pictures. It evokes discretely the ecological catastrophe and the difficulty in finding a solution that could put everything back into its place.See less
