By Andrew Liszewski Even if your fridge is already energy-efficient and eco-friendly, here’s one more way to make it truly ‘green.’ Originally designed by Richard Hutten to be used on the office ceilings of the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, these plastic leaves have a small magnet at the base allowing you to attach them to any metal surface. Besides using them to spruce up a filing cabinet or other metal faced appliances, they’d also come in handy for hiding that rusted out Chevy sitting in the backyard you keep meaning to ‘fix-up’ one of these days. The Leave Magnets have supposedly been put into production by an office furniture maker called Gispen, but I can’t find any information about them on the company’s website. See less

By Andrew Liszewski This very cool bookshelf concept designed by Arianna Vivenzio is basically a large elastic bandage stretched around 2 metal posts that are permanently fixed to the wall. The tension from the elastic allows you to fit a variety of different sized objects inside like books, CDs, DVDs and even boxes full of smaller items. However I think the elastic material would have to be particularly strong to ensure the bookshelf wouldn’t just sag to the ground, which in turn means there’s going to be a lot of force on those 2 metal posts. On the plus side if this thing ever snapped you wouldn’t have to worry about it putting an eye out since it would probably take your head clean off. See less

By Andrew Liszewski To be honest I have no idea what actually inspired the design of this unique sofa. It could have been a toothbrush, a scrubbing brush, or even a bed of nails. It was created by a nameless student at Bucks New University in the UK and uses a series of plush ‘bristles’ to provide the sitter (if you can indeed remain sitting) with a relaxing massage. While it’s obvious that ergonomics take a back seat to comfort with this particular design, it also looks like the sofa could trap large amounts of pocket change in-between each bristle as your guests excitedly try it out. So if the concept ever made it into production, after just a few weeks it might actually pay for itself. See less

The lamp is powered entirely by a spring driven generator; the more you wind the key, the longer the lamp will stay on. It’s obviously eco-friendly and great in a power outage, but there’s more to it than that… Since it’s wind-up, you don’t have to remember to turn out the light before going to bed. Want the light off anyway? Just unwind it. It also functions as a timer, since there’s a linear relationship between winds of the key and time lit. I’d love to know how exactly much light you get per wind, and then where I can buy one, but there don’t seem to be answers to either of those things quite yet. See less

But it is also limited edition, so some enterprising person will either have to go for broke or end up gluing little sister’s entire collection together. It’s your choice. Made by design group Estudio Campana in Brazil, it is apparently commentary on complex socio-economic ideals.
