It can serve as a nice focal point, in case people need a reminder for why they are there drinking mimosas on a Saturday afternoon, as well as being a practical gift for the parents-to-be. First you will need to buy some supplies: Bottle of champagne: Ah, yes, this is the critical difference with this Alpha Mom diaper cake. No rolled up baby bibs or receiving blankets here. (Does anyone even use those blankets?) This goes in the center of the cake. It is for the parents to bring to the hospital with them to break over the bow of the baby like the QE2. Hi Everyone! I’m really excited to be hosting this week’s Altered Tuesday! I have a project that will get you ready for Fourth of July using Dani’s Yankee Doodle Candy Kit. This kit is a collaboration between Dani and Kimberly Giarrusso and is full of yummy papers and embellishments that are perfect for all types of projects and LO’s. One of the things I love about this kit is the lime green color thrown into the mix with the traditional red, white and blue - it’s such a fun combination! Today’s project is a Fourth of July centerpiece. The supplies for this project are: * Yankee Doodle Candy Kit (available here: Sweet Shoppe Designs) * Bucket (The one I used is from Target, it has a star cut-out on the front of the bucket) * Dowels (or other sticks) * Dried Rice, dried Beans or styrofoam (to put inside the bucket to hold the dowels/sticks in place) * Misc. We got SO many emails and comments about Stephanie’s gorgeous necklace from her wedding that we featured the other day, we asked her to put together some simple instructions for us! How great is that! It’s pearly, it’s a little bit fancy, it’s all together FABULOUS! Materials: Everything I used for the necklace I got at Michael’s store. They have a great bead selection (certain stores more options than others- but I think you can also order online). I also got clasps that had multiple hooks or loops so that I would have more than one strand of beads coming from the one clasp. (I am not sure what those are referred to as). I found them on sale so the brand is not listed on Michael’s site, however, there are others that will substitute nicely. There are also plenty of bead shops and craft shops that I am sure would have great selections. You can find the clear jewelry string (nylon- not stretchy) at Michaels, or fishing line from any local Target or Walmart store will suffice as well.... See less

Here's the 365 photo I skipped (from day 307), a big file of finished sunflower brooches...Taking that photo this afternoon prompted me to finally list a sunflower over on Dawanda, and to give my Dawanda shop a little bit of overdue attention (translating a few more things, making up a bag of items ready to list over the next few weeks, etc). Yesterday (day 308) my crafty task was making lots of felt flower hairpins ready for our evening out. I was wearing a flame red dress with a floral print and wanted something really bold for my hair to match it... so I thought, why not make something out of felt? Here's the finished product, stuck fairly at random into a bun:I think they looked pretty effective, and they'd work really well pinned into a looser hairstyle too.
