(09/10/08) For Dolly it was lust for revenge. For Roger it was just lust.... When Leyna Shaw awoke, she was aware that something was different--terribly different. First she looked down at her tall, lovely body and saw no change. Then she looked around the room. It took her a moment to recongnize it. It was the White House bedroom. Then she saw the Eye. And the Hand. The Hand came to touch her. Her legs were thrust apart, the Finger separating them effortlessly, as Leyna screamed and screamed...See less

(09/10/08) I don't know how many times I've read this book, and I never tire of it. I know Sam and Deanie like the back of my hand by now, and that should bore me, but it doesn't. It's probably the truest accounting of mismatched young love in the history of literature. It's definitely Tabitha King's finest work (and all her work is pretty fine). ( )See less

(09/10/08) The story begins in 1958, when Calliope “Calley” Dakin’s father is brutally murdered in New Orleans. Everybody in the small town of Tallasee, Alabama suspects her mother, Roberta Ann Caroll Dakin of killing him for his money, including her mother. It seems that everybody was after her father’s fortune and out to control Calley, who can talk to the dead. I enjoyed reading about the characters in Candles Burning. By the time I reached the 400th page, I was anxious to find out what happened to her father and why Calley’’s great aunts were going to such elaborate lengths to her and her brother, Ford, on a tight leash. I eventually did and enjoyed the black humor at the end. Candles Burning started out as Michael McDowell’s book in the beginning. But when he passed away, Tabitha King decided to complete it. She states in the very beginning that he would have ended it differently. I’m not familiar with either author, but I am familiar with the Kings’ political beliefs. Tabby’s liberal slant...See less

(11/07/07) Now that the title and release date for the last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has been announced, much speculation has begun on what could happen next for the beloved series that many do not want to see come to an end. For example, one comic book site has a new article online asking if the Harry Potter books would perhaps make a good comic book or graphic novel series, in the form similar to the new Stephen King Dark Tower Comics. Newsarama let us know about a short interview they had with a rep from Scholastic (US publishers of the Potter books) if they had any interest in producing a Harry Potter graphic novel series for their Graphix line. Newsarama: David, does Scholastic/Graphix have any plans to adapt Harry Potter novels, or tell original Harry Potter stories in graphic novel form? David Saylor: Scholastic/Graphix has no plans to adapt the Harry Potter novels into graphic novel format. NRAMA: In your opinion, would the Harry Potter...See less

(11/07/07) In 1970, Stephen King embarked on what would become the crowning achievement in his literary career-the Dark Tower. The seven-volume series, written and published over a period of 30 years, was inspired by Robert Browning's poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came," as well as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, and the spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone. With the full cooperation of Stephen King himself, The Road to the Dark Tower examines the epic journey of the author to complete a story that threatened to overwhelm him. In this indispensable companion, Bev Vincent presents a book-by-book analysis of each volume in the series, tracing the Dark Tower's connections to King's other novels including The Stand, Insomnia, and Hearts in Atlantis, and offering insights from the author about the creative process involved in crafting his lifelong work-a work that has consumed not only Stephen King, but his legion of devoted readers. This is essential reading for any Dark Tower-or...See less

(11/07/07) "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." With those words, millions of readers were introduced to Stephen King's Roland—an implacable gunslinger in search of the enigmatic Dark Tower, powering his way through a dangerous land filled with ancient technology and deadly magic. Now, in a comic book personally overseen by King himself, Roland's past is revealed! Sumptuously drawn by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove, adapted by long-time Stephen King expert Robin Furth (author of Stephen King's The Dark Tower: A Concordance) and scripted by New York Times bestseller Peter David, this series delves in depth into Roland's origins—the perfect introduction to this incredibly realized world; while long-time fans will thrill to adventures merely hinted at in the novels. (11/02/07) The Lost Chronicles is the next best thing to being on the set of the Emmy winning television show that is a must have for all Lost fans. The book includes interview with the cast and crew, including creators J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof and an interview with Ian Somerhalder about being the first cast memeber to be killed off. There is also a detailed episode guide of the first season told in the format of an all-knowing unknown survivor and a detailed look at the production of an episode during a week. On the other hand, the DVD that accompanies the book falls flat. The behind the scenes selections are excerpts from those on the season one DVD set. However, the DVD does include three new deleted scenes of the four included and includes the season one set commercial. In addition, there is a short piece on the season one set that includes interview with Evangeline Lilly, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim and, if I remember correctly, Matthew Fox on their feeling of the show coming out on...See less
