this is just the best thing, i remember all these sketches very well, i just forgot they were all part of the same series, Burwhale,You You You, Alan, Weve had lots of letters, its all great stuff i reckon back when Steven was sillier and a seeming life time away from Hugh's right narky Doctor House ( its only a bad leg COME ON!), i cant be alone in thinking this light years away from the russ abbott inspired likes of Little Britain, for my money they were much funnier than Pete and Dud too. I watched Armando Ianucci's stuff recently too and it was certainly clever and as satirical as all heck but it left me flat(flatire?)like chris morris too there is an air of meaness , this Fry and Laurie series had me giggling like the fool i was and am.embrace the clever silly.Cheers ! I initially held off buying series 4 as memory recalled that it fell far short of the highs of the previous excellent 3 series. Although they did adapt a slightly awkward special guest feature, if you give it a chance you will see that many of the sketches still manage to be brilliant and Steven Fry's hilarious play on words has rarely been better. "Absolutely" was, without doubt, one of the funniest and most refreshing comedies of the late 80's, and still holds up well today. Although most of the cast are Scottish, the humour transcended nationalism far much better than Naked Video. Featuring regularly recurring characters such as "Mr. Don & Mr. George", the residents of Stoneybridge and the Nice Family, the show was a surreal mish-mash which appears to being picking up more and more (deserved) comparisons to Monty Python as times go on. I wasn't going to watch this at first, but I heard Richard Fleeshman talking about his character having Aspergers and this is a subject close to my heart so was curious. Thank goodness for I-Player, I managed to catchup on the series. It was brilliant. A funny, sad, touching story with great chorals - I would love to join their choir. I really hope there is a second series as there still feels like a lot of stories to tell. Also, look out for Richard's album Neon - he is an incredible singer. See less

Big nothing tells the story of a teacher who has lost his job (Schwimmer) and needs to find another one to bring in money to support his wife and daughter. He settles for a job in a call centre for the time being. Here, he meets Gus (Pegg) and his life takes on a very strange, new direction. There are some genuinely funny moments in this film and I am surprised it is so relatively unheard of. Maybe the distribution company just didn't get it, and therefore its marketing budget was virtually non existent. Both the lead characters are on good form but there seems to be a lack of chemistry between the two of them. There are numerous gags along the way which are mostly amusing rather than hilarious. Most of the comedy is very dark and as the plot revolves around numerous dead people this is very fitting. There are so many twists (some painfully obvious, some less so) that any time the film appears to be running out of steam another is thrown in to keep you on your toes. Overall the film is... This was the film that made Julie Christie into a star, however she was not the first choice. The first Liz was played by Topsy Jane who became ill during the shoot and had to be replaced. Quite simply this is brilliant. Producing the book as a TV series gave the director the opportunity to indulge in Waugh's lush and vivid text and whole sections of the book are quoted verbatim. And of course, in hindsight, the casting was inspired, with Jeremy Irons as Rider and Anthony Andrews as the rather beautiful Sebastian Flyte. But don't forget such cameo's as Nikolas Grace as the effete Anthony Blanche - masterful! The film I understand, leaves a lot to be desired, so better to buy this AND read the book.
