INK THIRSTY, needs larger ink cartridge capacity. Not economical unless you are charging handily for your work and of course, that's providing your work sells. (10/13/07) A great slide scanner; I don't expect to scan negatives as I have only done slides, mostly Kodachrome and Ektachrome, for the past 20 years or so. I found the unit easy to set up on my Mac G4 tower after installing a USB2 interface card. And got scans, using the Nikon Scan 4 (version 4.0.2) software, quickly. After reviewing the on-screen tools and set-up, especially for color management, choosing Adobe RGB as the color space, I found really fine images: full histograms with no clipping of the highlights or shadow points, good contrast, bright colors, just all around great images that I was very pleased with. I have not used any of the Nikon color correction tools as I do all of my processing in Photoshop CS2. And the Kodachrome setting allows a good scan of these types of slides. The software allows a selection of several color spaces from sRGB through Adobe RGB to something called Scanner RGB, which is supposed to provide the largest color gamut.
