Inspiration can come from anywhere, and in the case of Hee Welling, it was the interior of a refrigerator. More specifically, the shelves inside the refrigerator caught the eye of this industrial designer. At the time, Welling was fiddling with an idea for creating a chair that uses only one material. Altering this criteria a small bit, Welling added only a powder coating and created his Hee Collection (2004). The durable powder coat finish makes the Hee Lounge suitable for indoor and outdoor use by protecting the solid steel underneath. The coating also provides a surprisingly soft seat, and gives a slight "give" to the surface. After earning a degree in business in 1995, Welling spent a year working as a furniture designer in Vietnam. This experience motivated him to pursue a second degree, which he received in 2003 from the Danish Design School.
