This hat is part of a series of accessories that I am creating from recycled materials, found objects and dried plants and flowers that I collect as I wander around beautiful Portland, Oregon. The shape is inspired by hat fashions of the 40's and 50's and is made with a perforated packing paper that I came across somewhere along the way. The edges of the hat are created with millinery wire and are covered with the packing paper that I have manipulated and pleated to form all those lovely folds. I trimmed it with a flower that I made using withered rhododendron flowers from my front yard...each petal is a flower and the center is the remains of a flower I've yet to identify but I found it in my neighbors back yard. The photograph doesn't do the flower justice as you can hardly see the subtle tones of pink, green and brown or the texture of the wrinkles.
