Dovetails are often done with a jig and a router, but the angled sides make doing that properly impossible. These were cut at the band saw and then the waste was chiseled out by hand. For the drawer to operate the back side is beveled and you will see all the hand tooling marks when the drawer is open. The front and sides of this box are cut from a single piece of walnut that transitioned from the dark chocolate heartwood to the creamy sapwood. The angles everywhere are softened by the beautiful grain and the swirling pattern in the plate. 10" by 10" by 5-1/2" high. See less

Each of those cutouts have been hand sanded. This is truely a piece of art.
