Adam at San Francisco's Renegade Craft Fair

One of our go-tos for fun and affordable wall art is the Poster List. The colorful, witty pop art brightens up any wall for a mere $11. Pretty rockin', right?! A few designs have even been known to decorate the work spaces around Kaboodle HQ so we were thrilled to meet the artist, Adam, behind the designs at San Francisco's recent Renegade Craft Fair.

Originally hailing
from Toronto, Canada, Adam moved to Long Beach last year where he creates his posters and manages his online shop. Celebrity clients include Liz Phair, Tom Green, and many more. You can snag one or more of his cheeky designs by ordering from his Web site.

Read on to get a glimpse into Adam's style and his inspiration behind his work and be sure to check out our favorite Poster List picks!

Kaboodle: How would you describe your personal style?

Adam: Hmm, hard to say. A lot of people say vintage or retro...never really intend to do that...but I'll take it. I love typography and vibrant colors and simple, striking imagery.

K: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: Everywhere, buildings, signs, vintage signs, random things in the streets, words or phrases from the newspaper, lots of mid-century design. Magazines, old letterpress letters, cars, flea markets.

K: What's your favorite project or piece you created?

A: Really enjoyed doing the Breakfast series I just completed. Bacon, Eggs, Toast, Juice, Waffles and Coffee. Keep Calm and Rock On in August 2008 was a huge hit.

K: What are some of your most popular pieces?

A: Keep Calm and Rock On, Courage My Love, Summer Burn, Canvas Bridge, Birds On A Wire, lots of the typography sayings. It's been exciting to see people pick up so many different things. That's part of the fun for me. Sometimes a poster I think will do poorly does amazing.

K: Where is your favorite place to shop indie?
A: I love art supply stores and used furniture stores. My wife hits Buffalo Exchange constantly and I tag along. I love vintage surf shops. I shop way to much online. I love looking for used surfboards, letterpress letters, printing equipment, mac stuff on Craigslist.

K: What other designers inspire your work?
A: Milton Glaser, Paul Rand, Aesthetic Apparatus, Small Stakes, Heads Of State, Shepard Fairey and The Obey Giant folks, Andy Jenkins, Andy Mueller and The Quiet Life.
