Brittany: Anyone who takes a look around my house would have to vote contemporary for this one.  I really do love that style, but I have to say in my heart I am a bit eclectic too. I have such an appreciation for so many different styles, from traditional, to shabby-chic, to modern.
 
K: Where do you draw inspiration?
B: I find inspiration in many places.  When designing for children’s spaces, my main inspiration comes from the fact that I am a mommy to a 3 year old boy and a baby girl.  In designing their nurseries and bedrooms, my tastes have evolved to know exactly what I want for them. I want their rooms to be simple, clean and just cute (well, at least the design of the room is clean. One of the kids may be dumping a box of cheerios on the floor, but at least I can look up at the walls and feel a little peace).  When it comes to home design, I am always on a quest for fresh ideas, so I look for inspiration throughout the day.  For example, when I go out shopping and see a really fun display of furniture or home accessories, I stop and think, "What is something really unique that would help complete this look?"  Then when I get home I sketch some ideas that would fit well in that space.
 
 
K: What's your favorite project or piece you created?


B: My favorite piece often changes to what I am currently creating, but a steady favorite has always been my Dandelion in the Wind (above).  I love how simple it is, but how much movement there is in the design.  And of course, who doesn’t have great childhood memories of a dandelion?
 
K: Where is your favorite place to shop indie?
B: This is an easy one.  Etsy. I am slightly addicted to it (my husband may have a different view on just how slightly).  I love that there are so many great artisans from every corner of the world who have come together as a community to share their work.  There are so many talented crafters out there, I am so happy to be one of them!  I also love Poppytalk Handmade, which is an online street market.
 
K: What other designers inspire your work?
B: I have received a lot of inspiration from watching designers like Candice Olson and David Bromstad design an entire room that comes together as a single piece of art.  Because of this inspiration, I am actually in the process of expanding my working into new design mediums.  I will not only be offering wall decals, but also whole room accessories from matching clocks, to lighting accessories, to coordinating fabrics.  About 6 months ago I brought local creative genius (self-given title) Greg Thompson to the Lewa’s Designs team, which now consists of the two of us.  Greg has been a great inspiration in both ideas for decals and home accessories. Together, we will develop additional accessory products, as well as further expanding our ideas into the clothing market.
