Using the silver ink pad, dab ink along the edges of the background stamp. Print in center of card. 2.) Decorate the square "present" with little stars. 3.) Lay a sheet of decorative blue paper face down on your work surface. Lay your opened greetings card over this and mark the size of the card with a fine pencil. Adjust the length of the paper so that when it is folded around the greetings card it will cover about two-thirds of the front. Cut the paper to size. Mount the decorative paper on the card by applying a strip of card adhesive or double-sided self adhesive tape on the back of the greetings card alongside the folded edge. Mount the card teddy in position with self-adhesive mini foam pads. This forms a bridge between the card and the decorative paper, holding it in place. This design can of course be converted with 'It's a Girl' paper and a pink teddy. See less

I do something slightly different. I use card stock to document the stitch, and when I make a sample, I leave long tails which I put through small holes in the stock and tie at the back. I make several samples if different thread colours change the look. After doing this for a while, I came up with my own sheet, which I print onto the cardstock and now all my notes are standardized and details are easy to find. I put down needle sizes, position, machine settings (whether sewing, serging, embroidering, lacemaking) and other personal notes (like, too complicated for the effect it gives) just in case I forget how I did it or why I haven't done it in a while. My book ends up being fatter than yours, but I know all my samples are at the top of the pages and I can fan through them quickly; everyone has their own way to work and ideas are just the germination of invention. Ten dollars assumes you cannot scrounge a cardboard box and some white tissue paper you have saved in the gift-wrap supplies box. You can get this stuff at an office supply store, but it is more fun to scrounge. Besides, we are all about re-use and recycle here at Strobist. (I can proudly report that 98% of my bad jokes are recycled!) If you have this stuff, the only thing you will need to buy is two sheets of posterboard - black and white. Total damage would be less than $2. Don't blow the rent money. And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Small flash gear is especially well suited for shooting macro shots and other small-object still life and product shots. i decided to make stationary sets for my friends this holiday season & will also be selling them on my etsy site. i thought i would share the oh-so-simple process with you. what you need: 80 lb card stock (8.5 x 11) size a2 envelopes printer small amount of any lightweight fabric rotary cutter & matte sewing machine instructions: 1. using whatever program you prefer, set up an 8.5" by 11" landscape file to print. each sheet fits two cards with .25" margins. *see template below 2. print the desired amount of cards 3. cut each in half (2 - 5.5" x. 8.5" cards) do not fold until indicated 4. cut the desired amount of fabric. for my cards, pieces were anywhere from 1" x 1" to 2" x 3". 5. position the fabric on the front of the card 6. using a smaller width needle for your sewing machine begin a zig zag stitch, half on the fabric, half off 7. lift the foot of your sewing machine at each corner to turn the card in order to stitch the next side 8. carefully pull the card from under the raised... I did this in red (I used oil paint thinned with cooking spray as per an MFA grad student's instructions on getting cheaper ink for printmaking) on my great grandparents' collection of falling apart books from the 1860s-1920s. They were geography textbooks, atlases, poems, and one book about fish. I have always resisted bookmaking. For one thing, I tend to impulse buy blank books, so I never have a shortage of notebooks to choose from when it's time to start a new journal. However, the main reason why I never tried to make a book before is because the task always seemed so overwhelming. The instructions always seemed to be so complicated - there were never any pictures to illustrate the steps - and they always called for special materials that I didn't have on hand and had no inclination to buy. In short, making a book didn't seem to fit into the LazyGirlTM way of life. Until now. A few months back, I picked up a vintage copy of Crafts 'N Things magazine that featured an article on how to publish and bind your own book. I thought the idea was interesting, and I filed the article away for "someday" when I had the time. Now here's a version that's a little more in season. These valentine ornaments are made from my paper globe pattern (in sidebar as Paper Topiary). These go together easily with a glue stick and a good helping of sit-around time. Ornament Tips: For the dangle, string beads from the top of each embroidered heart, locating a large ball-shaped bead at the end of the string of beads. Then insert that large bead into the paper globe before gluing the paper flaps on either side of it shut. Likewise, for the ribbon loop, stitch the bottom of the loop into a ball-shaped wad, then insert that part into the paper globe at a joint before gluing the paper flaps on either side of it shut. When done, the large bead and the wadded up base of the ribbon loop are securely fastened within the paper globe where they don't show. Follow? I probably should do some sketches.
