Brazilian good luck charm that grants wishes and protects. It consists of fitas (ribbons) and a figa (stone carved fist). The fita reads: “lembranca do senhor do bonfim da bahia”, which means “Souvenir of Our Lord of a Good End of Bahia”. Senhor do Bonfim is said to be one of the names used for Jesus, and Bahia is a region in Brazil. The idea is to tie three knots, and for each knot you make a wish. Then you wait for the fita to fall off, you throw it in the sea, and your wishes are granted! It can take up to a year or more for one fita to fall off (or if you need your luck asap,maybe you can help it fall off)! But when it does its a great reason to use to go to the beach and hope again.
