(09/13/07) This girl can sing and these songs she covers are not just interpretations. She owns them in a masterful vocal display with absolutely gorgeous arrangements. There is only one show tune on the CD and it's a beauty. I was not familiar with some of the covers, but Sisters of Mercy, Starshine and You Were on My Mind are all old favorites and I was knocked out by her recreation of them. The musicians who played on this CD with her, whom she gives much credit to in the liner notes, are amazing. The arrangements in combination with that voice that ranges from country to jazz to folk to broadway and back in husky, whiskey-hued, high and bright, sailing, well...you get the idea. If you like variety this CD gives you everything from blues to protest, from ballad to show tune. You wont listen to a more evocative CD this year. Oh yeah, and she writes her own stuff too, three of the tracks are hers and stand shoulder to shoulder with the covers.See less

Definitely a page-turner, and only the fact that there is a previous book and a book-still-to come in this series prevents one from regretting from racing through it at top speed. (09/12/07) Nora Roberts is a good writer, but she's at her best when she's writing a series that covers multiple family members. That's the case with this book, and continues with the stories of Suzanna and Megan. Each book is good on it's own, but it's better to read them order because the stories do tie together. The Calhoun women live in Bar Harbor in The Towers, the family home for over 80 years. The place has seen better days and they are facing the prospect of selling it. The first story is about Catherine and Trent. Trent's family owns a string of first-rate hotels and he wants to buy The Towers. The two, of course, have an attraction and by the end of the book, it is agreed that half will remain the Calhoun family home, half will be renovated into a hotel. Woven into the story is one about Bianca, the girls great-grandmother. It tells her story from her point of view about her loveless marriage and how she falls in love with a painter.
