I read the many reviews and comparisons of this lens along with the Canon 28mm f/1.8 and Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Lest you think it is a difficult decision and you want to pay more money then stop reading. Otherwise buy this lens you won't regret it. Sure it is not the best built lens in the lineup, but it would be hard to say after handling it that the 28mm f/1.8 is built any better. Unless you are traveling in the Amazon or repelling down Everest it will hold up just fine. It is true, the focusing of this lens is loud. In fact the first time I heard it is was almost startlingly loud like something was wrong with it. It emits a higher pitched whining noise than the Canon 50 f/1.8 mkII. You get used to it though, to the point that you don't notice it. Not a deal breaker by any means in my opinion. Despite the loudness and not being a USM motor it focuses just as fast. On to the optical performance...WOW!...See less
