I truly wanted to learn more about this type of training - but there were no classes in it and no one was coughing up any "how to" on it. Including the old man I saw who sparked my interest in the first place. When I asked him questions he flat out ignored me. Not to be discouraged, over the next couple years I played around with a lot of backward training ideas, searching far and wide for whatever I could find on the subject. I read how running backward trained the body and the mind differently, how it improved cardiovascular functioning and so on. I read about how some old time boxers, Gene Tunney, to name just one, used backward training to get into incredible shape - wherein he put a whooping on the great Jack Dempsey. I read about groups of men and women who run marathons backwards. Think of that! Naturally, when I read this it fired me up about this type of training - even though at the same time I knew running 6-12 miles backwards per day was NOT something the average over 40... See less
