Three and a half years ago I was in the process of interviewing for restaurant Sous Chef positions and I made the decision to leave my career to go and support Rick and his dream of having his own cake shop. With the support of my husband, family and friends, I went from being the culinary meat girl to the cakelava "people person" (as in, "he makes the cakes, she's the people person"). Suddenly, there I was with a new career on my hands after 8 years in the industry, and a budding network of professional contacts and a file full of new clients. It helped of course, that prior to cooking, I had done some hard time in the corporate world with marketing jobs, and knew business etiquette which was definitely useful in starting off. I also believed tremendously in Rick's creative ability and didn't want to see him do this alone or with anyone else, and he felt the same way. With the deadline for the Fashion Illustration Competition this Thursday I have compiled a list of general tips for when designing your entries: * Always consider the Marks & Spencer customer and how commercial your design is. * Designs usually work better with a clear location or concept shown i.e a beautiful model at a cocktail bar or surrounded by fashion accessories etc. * Always use an appropriate and contemporary colour palette. * Be careful of proportions especially with figures and watch out for those hands and feet. * Be considerate of composition and placement, experiment with a few layouts. * Try something different and interesting with text and it's placement. * Use a good and accurate reference source for dresses, shoes, bags and your models. I can't afford much in The World of Interiors May issue. That doesn't stop me from drooling over the thick glossy pages of images that range from custom Louis XV Dishwasher-and-sink unit or a sleek Jean-Louis Deniot club chair ( U.S. price: 7,400, without fabric). But, I don't close it feeling depressed. Why? I found some inspiring ideas and some affordable finds. This palace room, painted with clouds and gold leaf lightning flashes, is not in my future. But, the look has inspired me to make some bolder choices. I plan to scour flea markets and kitchen supply stores to find copper pots to make a shelf or narrow wall like this one at a palace in Portugal. Instead of paper napkins or an average washcloths, I would love to have these vintage accessories that look like they were inherited from a French aunt. I never have been a fan of cactus plants. But, I am changing my mind after seeing them in these colorful and slightly chipped mugs. Now, I can have a green spot and use up those cups... See less

Been on google way too much today. In one of my many narcissistic searches I found this here: Behold, Vander Yacht Park! No shit! I haven’t been to this beautifully named oasis of calm and reverie but it’s only a 4 hour and 28 min drive away and it’s conveniently located just off of I-5! NICE. I plan on making a pilgrimage some day. BIRDS! And if the photos weren’t enough to tide you over for this stunning piece of outdoors, feast your eyeballs on this(!!!): Best five minutes of my day. Following around squirrels and common song birds is what I typically do outside, so this video really speaks to me. And those transitions!! YOW! The heart-shaped one really gets me. And it gets better! Ready? There are TWO Vander Yacht Parks! I know, it’s hard to believe. And they’re both in Washington, the land my ancestors apparently decided was the place to procreate. A 3,000 sqft space, now filled with individually customized desks, a pool table with a wall sized ‘world domination map, a Video game room with Giant Squid pillows, a bar with built in kegorator, and a secret door to the Captain’s Lounge. Work Stations: Desks and Screens. Within the new Three Rings office, there are several work areas separated by complex screens. The screens relate to the areas it separates. I was clicking through news portal Daqi and noticed this obviously fake yet incredibly evocative photograph: The author is 麦田精灵 (wheat field fairy), and the picture seems to have been hand-picked from a non-Daqi forum: the 云南信息港 (Yunnan Information Port)'s photo sharing forum. The user profile doesn't yield much information about the picture's creator, except that she has contributed to over 20,000 posts on the Yunnan forum and that she can be reached at km@sina.com. A Daqi editor picked up these photographs off of the Yunnan forum and created a feature out of it on Daqi's new photo sharing section (大棋图海).
