And maybe, just maybe, that unsightly center hole has even kept you from crocheting in the round at all. Well, no more. Now you will be armed with the trusty (some might even say magic) adjustable ring and you will be dancing circles around those circles. Be forewarned—once you have made an adjustable ring, you will never be the same. You may never go back to other ways of making a ring. I know I haven’t. There are a lot of photos. But don’t worry; you’ll be sailing through this in no time. For the sake of knowledge (we can never have too much of that, can we?) this is the format i first encountered amigurumi patterns in, and i find it much easier to follow than directions written out long hand. the chart gives the total number of stitches (all sc) in each row. to make life easier increases and decreases are usually made in multiples of 6, distributed equally around the row. you will find that as you work this creates an easily memorised pattern. e.g. the legs work up as follows: (inc1= increase by 1 - work 2 sc into the top of one sc of the previous round) row 1: 6 sc into ring (6 sc total) row 2: inc1 all around (12 sc) row 3: 1 sc, inc1 around (18 sc) row 4: 2 sc, inc1 around (24 sc) row 5: 3 sc, inc1 around (30 sc) etc… you can calculate how many stitches between the increases by dividing the previous and upcoming row totals by the difference between them (the number of increases in the next round). e.g. 36 sitches up to 42 is an increase of 6. 36/6=6, 42/6=7. which means you want to turn every 6 stitches of the previous round into 7 in... Standing three feet high and unable to fly, how strange it must have looked to the sailors who discovered it! To Europeans it seemed stupid, a bird without the sense to run when humans came near and that laid its one, large egg on the ground without any precautions against predators. Of course, the dodo was not stupid. There were simply no predators on the island to guard against before the arrival of humans – and while the extinction of the dodo is often laid at the feet of hunters, numerous references to the disgusting taste of dodo meat make it unlikely that the dodo was hunted to its infamous extinction.
