Knotting the yarn wigs on dolls is a fun and creative task in doll making. For the Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls in the photo I use 2-foot lengths of yarn threaded through a large eye metal needle. Just use a single strand - not a double strand and no knot at the end. Pattern: Beginning at the doll’s right jaw line I work up around the face line to the left jaw line. The next arc of stitches goes in a row one quarter inch behind the front row beginning at the doll’s left jaw line this time. Continue sewing rows moving back over head and side to side. I make the hairline across the lower head even with the jaw line. Now - here’s how to attach the locks of yarn hair Study the photo for a minute. Cover the edge of the board with the smooth faced adhesive tape so that yarn don't hook into the board edge to make easy to spool orderly. Begin spoolingTape the end of yarn on the board and begin to spool. spacing between yarn and next yarn loosely, spool yarn on the board. Do not spool narrowly or the density of hair will became too high. Spooled yarnSpool to 11" width. Tape the end of yarn. The iron tape is bonded. Well stick the iron adhesive tape 4" from right edge of board with iron. Do not bond the tape to board, bond yarn only. Check that all parts of the body are well and evenlly stuffed. Close off the opening with ladder stitch and pulling the stitching tightly. 1-2. Put together the head side panel and the center panel mathing o to o and x to x and sew. After sewing both sides, sew the back of the head. And turn the head right side out. 1-3. Trace the pattern onto freezer paper and cut the template out. Iron it to the WS of one piece of body fabric. Use a light box or hold this piece up to the window and lightly trace the awake face with a fine pencil. Place the penciled side on top of the second piece of body fabric carefully stitch twice around the edge of the freezer paper template (20 stitches to the inch), leave open as indicated. Cut the doll out adding a 1/8" seam allowance. Peel the freezer paper off (if you are careful it can be used again). Clip and turn RSO. Stuffing: [Hints: Always use a good quality stuffing Mountain Mist TM or Fairfield TM When stuffing a small doll use small pieces of stuffing. Pack it firmly pushing from center out to sides. Our plans are modeled after the original design created 18 years ago for our eldest daughter, Stephanie by her grandmother. The house patterns feature a sloped roof, batted shingles, flowers, grass 'landscaping' and cottage style trim. Each has removable curtains with drawback ties, which make changing the inside decor a snap. We've also added a picket fence, window boxes with batted flowers and a little caterpillar. All houses were designed so basic sewing skills, a standard machine and iron are all that would be needed. No special tools or materials are needed for the frame. See less

Make a pattern by folding the paper in half and cutting out a shape of somewhat like a ginger bread man. I copied the shape from a small cookie cutter that I had. It was easier to draw the shape first and then cut it out. I found a nice fat shape looks better than a thin one. After you have your pattern, use it to cut out two identical shapes. If you like, use pinking shears to make a ragged edge. On one side, sew on buttons for eyes and belly button. Using some yarn, attach the hair at the top. I added a mouth to mine by using a cross-stitch pattern that my sewing machine does. Now, put wrong sides together and stitch around the edge, leaving an opening to add the stuffing. Add stuffing,(don't over stuff it)and finish sewing up the opening. Write the following poem on a piece of paper and attach it around his neck: See less

An Original Design by Debbie with suggestions from the AOL Angel Crafts Board Angels Sept 1999 Materials: (2) 5 1/2" squares of plush felt for body (2) 4"wide x 3 1/2"high pieces of regular felt for heart shaped wings scrap of burgundy felt for heart (2) 4 or 5mm half round beads for eyes short piece of floss for whiskers sm grapevine wreath for halo light pink blush Q-tip matching thread lg eye needle tacky glue fishing line Instructions: 1. With wrong sides together and nap of felt going down on both pieces, transfer body pattern onto one square. Sew all around directly on pattern line. Cut out, leaving a 1/8" margin. Clip curves. Cut a 1 1/2" crosswise slit in upper back, be sure to cut thru ONE LAYER ONLY. Turn body right side out through the slit, smooth edges and stuff lightly. 2. Repeat above for the wings, but do not stuff. 3. Glue wings to back covering slits. 4. Glue the beads to front for eyes. 5.
