It's a rather skewed clubhouse -- for the Jailed Mayors' Club. No, no, it's not a very exclusive group because there are so many crooked mayors out there. The membership requirements are that a mayor must commit -- and get caught committing --more than one felony crime. It is my belief that there are a whole lot more criminal mayors who don't get caught or charged with a crime. After all, mayors are in a position of power, often with supervising control over police departments particularly in smaller municipalities. Oh yes, a number of the jailed mayors are either ordained clergyman themselves, church deacons. or among the serious church faithfuls. Seems that a lot of criminal mayors are tight with religion, especially fundamental churches. You decide what that means. It seems to be a fact. Girls in 3rd grade with their period, breasts and a whole lot of sexual attention at way too early an age (age of menarche is coming earlier, some thing it's tied to body fat). Modern U.S. presidents have only their presidential libraries. Now that the George W. Bush era is almost over, the world needs a place to archive the legacy of the 43rd president. Mystery Men hit theaters at the tail end of a decade when the mainstream traded in its Brooks Brothers suit for second-hand flannel, grew a goatee, developed a trendy heroin habit and tried to convince a generation of famously apathetic grunged-up slackazoids that they were totally into Nirvana back when they were still on Sub Pop. It was a golden age for the co-option of hip subcultures as corporations adopted a series of rebellious poses to facilitate the all-important business of selling sullen young people crap they don’t really need. It was an era when Jeremy Davies legendarily argued that Subaru was “like punk rock, only it’s a car”. If Subaru is like punk rock, only a car then Mystery Men is like a funky little independent cult comedy only it’s a giant, bloated, special effects-intensive, big-budget studio blockbuster.
