Having recently bought a town bike for local errands and some commuting, I wanted some kind of rack carrier. I considered panniers first, but I ended up getting this rack trunk. The Epic DX Rack Trunk is great! The pack itself is lightweight. Its main compartment is well padded. (Yesterday I brought home a bottle of wine and a bag of cherry tomatoes. No damage to either--and lots and lots of space left over.) There are four useful external pockets, and the main compartment can be enlarged by unzipping a zipper. I especially like the simple but totally reliable attachment to my rack. There are four strips of velcro that loop under the rails of the rack and stick back onto themselves. I don't see any way this pack could ever shake loose, no matter how it's loaded nor how big the bump in the road. The only negative is the lack of a shoulder strap. The pack has D-rings on top, obviously for attaching a shoulder strap--but no strap. You'll have to come up with your own strap. I cannibalized... See less

This trunk has never left my commuter. I use it with a rack made by the same company and they go great together. I have a relatively short commute (just under 10 miles round trip) and there is plenty of room for the necessities: Keys, cellphone, lunch, lights, and enough room to store some layers if it gets to warm (usually a vest and/or jacket). The velcro straps have been very secure and have not presented a problem. The bungee chords on top are also a nice feature that can come in handy if you run out of room. Another thing that I found handy is that the outer top pocket can be opened with the left hand while riding to access items if it is not too full. One of the best choices I have ever made. See less

I just started commuting this year, and have done my 32 mile roundtrip route about 20 times so far this year with these panniers. I had originally gotten them thinking they were a good value, but these were still pretty pricey and in the end, not worth the money. There are several better panniers out there. Issues that I had: 1) The strap that you use to snug the pannier onto the rack is a poor design. It is set low on the back of the pannier against the rack, and is about impossible to get at it when you need to loosen it and remove the pannier. Have now see other bags that have a much better clip system. 2) The system that snugs the pannier to the rack can loosen, and the hooks on the bag will allow it to pop off if you hit a bump. Has fallen off 3 times on me. 3) The strap that fastens the front flap of the bag kept slipping through the plastic eyelet. I ultimately had to wrap duct tape around the bottom of it to keep in place. Overall, these bags are fine if you have them for very... See less

I could only get one of these when they were on sale last summer, but I decided to give it a try anyway. I like how much it holds--way better than a backpack! I've been using it a couple times a week, biking with my dogs to the store only a few miles away, and it's held up well. Have only knocked it off once, but haven't had any problems since I adjusted the bungee through the strap to put it farther back. I wish the bottom were a little sturdier--it seems a bit flimsy when loaded with heavy things, like cans. But I have a trunk pack, too, and looping the carry strap around the trunk pack seems to keep the pannier from sagging too much when loaded with heavy stuff. The trunk pack also helps keep the pannier hooks from coming off the rack when hitting bumps. I'm thinking of getting another one before the hot weather comes so I won't have to use a backpack for the rest of my groceries. See less
