Netbooks: My Digital World On the Go

3 Hearts

Since I'm still in school, there have been times when I really wanted to check my email, browse the net, and to my homework (the computer lap is too far from the art department, and I can't really trust putting my private information into those public computers anyways...). I had a laptop, but gave it away when I decided that 4lbs is just to much for me to lug around on a daily basis on top of all my art supplies and stuff I carry with me. Since then, I've gone without a portable computer, but now with the introduction of netbooks, I am seriously considering plunking down some good money for a good model to port around for another couple of years (school or no school). This list is to help me organize my thoughts about them. If anyone has any recommendations on a good netbook, let me know!

So beautiful and there is a 6 cell battery available for it! This is basically perfect for my needs, and the price is awesome!

Wants her model to have:6-cell battery.160 or 120GB hard drive.1GB RAM.Golden Brown shell.Wins and Linux Dual-boot. (Will set up this one herself, obviously)I haven't been able to find a decent seller that is selling the specs I want in that color! Did everyone buy this model during the holidays, or is the White and Blue more popular and they're not stocking the Brown? So sad.

If I get a netbook, I definitely want a dual-boot function with Cloud as my linux-based OS. I love how it's been optimized for netbooks and is able to easily coexist and switch to my windows in case I needed to do that.

Cnet.co.uk rated this one as the best out of all the netbooks they compared. This one was also the most expensive as well...If I had money to blow, I'd love to get this one, but I might end up considering a less expensive netbook...UK Cnet Review of the Netbooks

why is it called a netbook? is it something different then a laptop??

According to Wikipedia, a Netbook is "a very small, light-weight, low-cost, energy-efficient laptop, generally optimized for internet based services such as web browsing and e-mailing."Basically a netbook is smaller and lighter than a laptop. Since I don't like large laptops, and even the smallest ones are about 3-4lbs still, this would be perfect for my daily travel usage.

Cool, thanks for the explanation! ;)

We've already fallen in love with the MSI Wind U110, so it stands to reason that we'd go banoodles for its successor, the U120. It's not out yet, but we can pretty much guarantee that come January 2009 you'll be buying one.

I've worked with a couple Netbooks - check out the Lenovo S10. It's got a pretty small battery, but very nice size and build quality.

I like my Dell Inspiron Mini 9.

Thank you for the wonderful suggestions!
