3/29/07 update: Thanks to everyone for helping me with my camera research!! I bought the Canon Powershot SD800 IS and I LOVE it!! ----------------------------- I recently lost my old Powershot S500 =( I loved the sleek design and ease of use, but this camera fell short in the low-light arena... any suggestions for a replacement? USAGE: Point & Shoot, some low-light MEGAPIXELS: I was happy with 5.0 (I rarely print 5x7s) SIZE: Compact or Ultra Compact - if it's too big/heavy, I won't bring it! FEATURES: Shooting speed is moderately important Get your own Help Me Choose widget See Comments

Point & Shoot: Canon SD800 IS Canon’s latest and greatest in their Elph line is the perfect all-around digital camera: The Canon SD800 IS. After weeks of research, we just picked one up. It’s great.

7.1 megapixels ISO 1600 I loved my old S500, and the service at Canon is hard to beat.

I recently got this camera and have been very impressed with it. The image stabilization is a very useful feature (absent from the SD900).

Canon makes great digital elph cameras, I have used several myself

No User Image

I have a similar one - great stuff

Canon is hands-down the best for optics and interface

No User Image

I plan to replace my S400 with this. It has a higher ISO and image stability (good for low light) plus wide angle.

This is the best value, great in low-light

I'm a Canon fan. I've got the canon elph, rebel 2000 and digital elph. My next purchase will be the Canon EOS 5D.

I've been really impressed with Canon and this one tops the pile, the face recognition is awesome

I don't know much about P&S cameras, or Canon. My weapon of choice is a Nikon D70s. Sorry.

I have a Pentax *ist DSLR for most of my camera needs, but when I'm out and about I carry a Kodak easyshare Z740. It's not the smallest, but definitely easy to use when you have someone else taking the pictures.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z7590. I absolutely love it. I haven't had a lot of cameras in the past but I am able to take a lot of great pictures with this camera. This is last year’s model so I am sure that this year’s model has a few new "Bells and Whistles" but I am very happy with Kodak. My last camera was a Kodak of about 6 models ago and it kept working great until I fried it by putting inferior batteries in it. I have played around with all the settings and although it is designed for a novice to use with its easy to understand dial settings I think it takes professional digitals. I plan to take a photography class soon just to find out what I am really doing. I really have enjoyed this little camera even though it is chunky compared to the slim cameras that you can get with other models. I don't mind looking like a photographer verses taking pictures with a mini cam. I like the options that you get with a larger camera. Good luck in your search. Here is a link to the Kodak EasyShare site www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-locale=en_US&pq-path=8016

My sister just got a Sony Cybershot as an early Christmas present. I'm not sure of the model number, but it seems to take good pictures. It has a 3X optical zoom which should be ok for on the town pics and is small enough to stash in an evening bag. Might be worth checking into.

check out the new fuji f31fd absolutley a fantastic camera with low light capabilites and the coolest face detection mode ever here is a link to fujis web site http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/lineup/f31fd/index.html

I just ordered the Canon SD630 but I don't know how it will hold up for the things you are looking for. For my budget and the features I wanted, this seemed like a great choice. My mom has the SD400 from a couple of years ago and it's still takes amazing pics! Good luck!

Have you checked out the Fuji FinePixF20? http://www.fujifilmrpt.com/index.jsp;jsessionid=7E2020DCE17B807C3C4640CC164130C5. There's a pretty cool video on this website (and I've seen national commercials) on it. It's definitely on my wish list.

if youre looking for an slr, i have the canon rebel xt and i love it. i'm also considering the canon d20 as an upgrade.

if you want an SLR, go with a Canon. We love ours. I just got an Olympus Stylus 810 and for a P&S, compact, throw-it-in-your-bag camera, it's great. Be sure to get one with rechargeable batteries, as lot of the P&S only run on regular batteries.

fujifilm finepix f30 is good. i don't have it but i've read the reviews and it's supposed to be good for low-light settings. and it's compact. and it's a point & shoot. i might even get it myself. it's not on any of my lists yet though.

Check this out, if you haven't already: Flickr Camera Finder.

i absolutely love all of these cameras they are so cute and i think that cannon cameras are better that any other kind of digital cameras i have one and i absolutely love it

CAn somebody help me buying a digicam...i have zero down on Sony Black Cybershot = W170/B...any comments ?
