While they dangle as pretty earrings, no one can tell that they are actually useful gadgets! These lighters were once rare prizes in gumball machines in the 1960's and 70's so they are pretty hard to find in good condition. I have been searching the world over for the mini lighters for my vintage lighter cufflinks and I happened upon these. They are a pretty gold color and measure only 1 inch tall by 5/8 inch in diameter (25mm x 16mm). They are made of a lighter metal so they are the only lighters light enough to wear as earrings, weighing only 0.2 oz without lighter fluid (5.6g). They dangle from 14K gold filled earwires and look fantastic. You can keep the earring on as you pull the bottom off one of the containers and light up. They are adorable yet dangerous! When you put them on, they look like your standard dangle earrings from one side. From either side, you can see they are tiny folding knives. Take them off and open them up and you will find they are sharp and fully functional. They measure 7/8 inch closed (1 inch with the loop, and 1 5/8 from top of the earwire to bottom of the knife) and the blade is about 9/16 inch and sharp and has a notch on the blade just like the full-sized pocket knives to open easily. The blade and handle are stainless and it is stamped on one side with the knife company logo. These earrings are so small, you have to see them to believe it. We thought we would revisit this simple look and add a bit of Figs & Ginger flair to it. The circle pendent is 17mm in diameter and the chain is 16" or 18" long. We use at least 50% recycled sterling silver in each piece, but do try to use 100% when we can. The necklace is given a dark patina and is very low maintenance, no polishing required.
