However, I have to say, I like the shape very much and somewhat got over my aversion to sewing curves. Fabric shown is Peapod (outside) and Leaflet (inside) from the Modern Flora Collection. | Materials Needed: * 1 yard fabric for exterior of bag * 2/3 to 1 yard fabric for interior of bag * 2/3 yard of heavy stabilizer (I used Pellon 65) * piece of closed cell foam 2" x 18" * magnetic snap * 2 round rings for straps * 1 8" long zipper (if inside pocket is desired) * Fabric 10" x 12" for pocket (again, if desired) * Purse pattern downloadable here. Yesterday, when we posted the great fabrics from Repro Depot that we thought would inspire anyone to get sewing, we said that making a bib was "as basic as it gets." Now, that may not be completely true when you don't even know where to start. We're not master seamstresses by any stretch of the imagination and even making a bib can give us a headache, but a bib gives high returns for relatively low effort. All you have to do it ditch the complicated steps (like encasing an entire bib in double fold bias tape). Unless you're good and stuff and sewing and then you can embellish away! Here's a basic bib pattern we threw together (with instructions) that should help you showcase the fabulous fabrics that you find. You should now have a nice 3.5×7-inch pocket. Baste along the open edge (the one across from the folded edge) together. If you’re a fan of top-stitching, top-stitch across the folded edge. You can also use some fancy stitches here if your machine has them. If you want to embroider anything on the pockets, now is the time to do so. Keep in mind that you’ll lose about 1/2+1/8 inches around the sides due to the seams and top-stitching.Repeat for other pocket. Turn the book so that the back is face down and trace this cover with your pencil as well. | Remove the book and you will have a large rectangle. This is the basic pattern from which you will be working. It is a good idea to doublecheck the size of the pattern with the edge of your book before moving forward. | Duplicate the original pattern. Measure 3" in from either edge and mark off a rectangle with the three edges of the book and the now-inside edge of what will be the inside flap. This will make one folded, fuller (can't think of the right word !) flower and two not folded flowers ? ? ? Cut one piece of backing fabric ( calico, or a stiffish cotton ) 27 x 18cm (11 1/4 x 7 ") and nine 18 x 3cm (7 x 1 1/4 ") strips from your chosen fabrics - I prefer to tear my fabrics rather than cut as I like frayed edges. Pin and stitch fabric strips onto backing along all edges. Turn over, and cut in half length-ways, stitching either side of your cutting line first to avoid your stitching running back. Now, with one of your pieces, fold in half length-ways and with your thread doubled, tie a knot and stitch along the raw edge using a fairly big running stitch. Before you gather, make cuts between your stitched lines, starting at the folded edge to about 1 cm (1/2") away from your running... See less

This easy, no sew project stays together with the addition of grommets!
