Supplies: #2 Pencil, ball-point ink pen, linoleum cutters, paper, ink pad and rubber printing block. 1. Draw your image onto a piece of paper with #2 pencil. When you are happy with your image, go over again with pencil to make sure the lines are strong and dark. If you want to do a very simple image, you can draw directly onto the rubber printing block with a pen and skip to step 4. 2. Now transfer this image onto the rubber printing block by putting image face down onto block and rub with pencil. You will have a backwards image. This is especially important when using images with words, letters or numbers. 3. Once the image has transferred, go over penciled lines with ink pen. This is a tutorial for those of you who want to make your own rubber stamps. Handcarved rubber stamps are quite satisfying to make and you can easily create and carve out your own design. First, you'll need a few things: I'm using the tracing paper method because it's cleaner and easy to adjust the clip art to your liking. So, there's tracing paper, clip art, carving material, and a carving tool. The material I'm using here is Speedy Stamp, aka the "Pink Stuff" from Speedball. Speedy Stamp is easy to carve and prints quite well. It's also easy to mount to a block. There are a variety of carving material out there, so find the one you like best. I'm also using Speedball's linoleum carving set. It comes with a set of carvers in various sizes, 1 being the smallest for fine lines to 5, which is useful for scooping out excess material. Hand carving stamps is no biggy, but I'm going to have to divide this tutorial up into sections because uploading pictures is a pain. :) Firstly, behold, my collection: My collection In today's tutorial, I'm going to talk about materials. The tools you use is perhaps one of the most important factors in the success of your stamps. :) 1. speedball linoleum carving set Finding this carving set may be difficult, but it's worth the search! It gives you control and accuracy! :) 2. x-acto knife I use my x-acto knife to cut the stamp carving material to the size that I want. Pretty nifty, versatile tool. 3. versaFine, versaMagic, and brilliance inkpads I LOVE different inks, but my favorites are the above. *sigh* These guys are super expensive, but they last a while, and they give your stamped image more than you could ever imagine!
