It's a premium cotton that is extremely light (like a fine white button-down business dress shirt), and you can fold it down to almost nothing. There's no bulk to it at all. It's perfectly cool, and yet it's a little stretchy (just on the width though, not on the length, so will never bag or stretch too much). It holds and cuddles and wraps around the baby perfectly. Very comfy on the shoulders, and even drapes stylishly when the baby's out of it. The original fabric was sadly discontinued, but I have been able to have it recreated and woven especially for these wraps. Hooray!See less

When the pads do start to feel wet, the feeling is that of warmth, not cold and clammy, as with other pads. As the wool absorbs moisture, lanolin is converted to lanolin-soap, which has an antibacterial effect. It keeps the wool clean, fresh and hygienic. For most women, two pairs are all you'll ever need. When one pair feels wet, let it dry while wearing the other pair. The lanolin is activated and cleans the wool as it dries. The moisture evaporates away and only the milk solids are left. Eventually, depending upon how much leakage you have, you'll feel the center of the pad get "stiff" or you'll notice white powdery milk spots. First then, will you need to wash them. I attribute that to the cover design. Are these new diapers from Cotton Babies made with the same cover design, leg elastic, etc? Then Im sold! Because with a second baby on the way, I want some diapers that I dont have to stuff in the rotation, that actually work. So the Econobum or the new Flip sound like good options.See less

It is the full width and thickness 4-8-4 ply of the other sizes (unlike preemie which is thinner) but is shorter in length so it actually fits in newborn covers without the awkward folding down of the extra length of diapers that are too long for the covers. You can pin or snappi this on a newborn. You can't do that with preemie size because they are too narrow, and preemie size is not nearly as thick and absorbent as the Newborn Orange Edge.See less

(03/09/10) If my preschooler has a pee accident, I just take off the bedsheets and let the wool air in place while the sheets are in the wash. Honestly it stays fresh and does not need washing. If it gets stinky because it gets too wet too often, you'll need to wash it. If it's getting that wet then add a towel or extra sheets over the pad but under the sheet, then the cotton will do the absorbency (like a diaper) and the wool will just need to do it's normal job of resisting and dampness-catching which dries out to fresh. Thus it won't need washing.See less
