Last Holiday season I became obsessed with making yarn pom poms. They are perfect as garlands, ornaments, gift toppers, and more! Today I am super excited to share a cool twist on the standard pom pom (I dreamt this up while driving the other day)... plastic grocery bag pom pom gift toppers! I know.... it sounds crazy. But what better way to reuse something as benign as a grocery bag, then to give it new life by turning it into something fabulous for adorning your holiday gifts! If you are not familiar with the basic steps to creating a pom pom, then first check out this short video I found on YouTube. Disregard the scruffiness of the end result... and the fact that she is using yarn. It is only the process that you will need to be familiar with. For added textural interest, we made three sizes of flowers, and used a different color chiffon than the organza. After making a garden-full of flowers, we adorned a beautiful opera scarf with them. As there’s no ‘right’ way to make these flowers, don’t be afraid to be creative with their shape in Step 12—when they are all slightly different, it adds to their beauty and texture. See less

Arrange light strand and potpourri in canning jar while lights are on so you'll be able to get it just right and be able to see what it will look like when it's finished. 2. Place doily or fabric on top of jar, arranging the cord of the light strand so it's coming out where you want the back to be. Tie some ribbon around the neck of the jar to hold the fabric in place. When you get it arranged the way you like it, use the hot glue gun to glue the fabric and ribbon down in several places so it will hold. 3. Decorate the outside of the jar with festive decorations like pine cones or artificial holly berries. Craft stores have a variety of holiday decorations you can cut apart and re-arrange any way you like. 4. Experiment with different potpourri scents. I didn't really think about using the washcloth. I just wanted to make something round, a shape I'd never tried to knit. Since then I have become a knitted-washcloth convert. At the end of a hectic day, I lather it up with soap, wash my face, and feel, at least for a moment, that I am doing something special for myself. It's amazing how something so seemingly inconsequential can actually have a profound effect (it nearly always compels me to take a deep, relaxing breath). Then we stuff it with potpourri and seal the 4th side the same way. Let dry again. Use pinking shears to trim the edges to keep them from unraveling and to finish off the look. After it is done you can further decorate it if you choose to. Additional tip: We have found it is easier to seal the 4th side if we glue part of it initially and just leave a small opening in the middle to insert the potpourri into. See less

KC, if you measure the cup you want to cozy, you can use a stitch count that is a multiple of 8 (if you are doing this in the round), or, if you want to knit it flat, a stitch count that is a multiple of 8, +2 (e.g. 18, 34, or 42). The ribbing and smocking are stretchy, so I'd guess that if you measured the narrow part of the cup and the wide part of the cup, then got an average of the two and figured out your gauge (stitches per inch) off that, you'd be able to knit a sleeve that would fit most of the cup. If you want the cozy to have a base, knit the base of the cozy to fit the base of the cup. Using the pattern, you'll have a multiple of 8 sts in each round of the base, so you could just start working the smocking... See less
