Highlights: Without a doubt, the best place in Manuel Antonio to catch the sunset. Fantastic Margaritas too! Oh, yeah and the food is great.

Watch for the big yellow sign off the main road, then drive a short distance on a fairly rough dirt road up the hill.

It may not look like much, but the food is good. My favorite dish here is the Casado Especial Lukas. Great flavor and good value. Enjoy it with an ice-cold Imperial or Bavaria negra and watch the endless parade of tourists and locals going out dancing or bar-hopping around El Pueblo.

Located in San Pedro, near the University of Costa Rica

The new Jazz Cafe in Escazu is fantastic. Great venue for live music, very cool building, great sound, good food and drinks. The cover is a bit more than in San Pedro, but well worth it.

From Frommer's: located several miles outside of town [Jaco], around Tárcoles, is a good place for lunch. The food here is standard Tico fare, but the ocean-side setting and views set it apart from other simple sodas

Highlights: Clearly the catch of the day or arroz con mariscos!

Comments (1)

Best place to stop for lunch or dinner if you're driving to Jaco beach.

A magnificent hotel; very reasonably priced. Very elegant, superb service and exceptional food. The hotel has been completely remodeled and it's much, much nicer than the current website shows. I'm sure a website update is coming at some point.

Located in the hills of Alajuela, about 20 minutes from the airport, this is the perfect spot to spend the last night in Costa Rica.

They now have a second resort in Esterillos, a very nice beach in the Pacifico Central area, between Jaco and Manuel Antonio. The rooms are exceptional, the beachfront location is unbeatable, the service is great, the food is good but still needs some work to make this a truly fantastic place.

If you're in the south of Costa Rica, do not miss a day trip to Isla del Caño. It's about a 45 minute boat ride from Drake and it's a great place to spend the better part of a day hiking, snorkeling, swimming or just hanging on the beach. Plus there are very good chances of catching some whales or dolphins on the way there or back.
