Shelly Donahue sat at the white plastic table on a white plastic chair outside the Excelo Bakery shop on Water Street. She was eating a "wicked" sandwich -- so designated on a hand-lettered placard -- consisting of sprouts, tomato, avocado, two kinds of cheese, and Green Goddess dressing on herb-flavored foccacio bread baked on the premises. Her own designation of it was "messy but interesting;" as in, "Will you make me one of those messy but interesting veggie sandwiches?" Shelly would not add a sandwich to a list including murder and child abuse. She also had a cup of cranberry juice, not further designated. She was feeling frazzled, and looking a trifle frazzled as well; her hair was coming out of its bun and tendrils of it were lifted up here and there by a cool, vagrant breeze. An all-day pre-school session was underway, and there were new laws and regulations to master, new textbooks (one with several errors of fact) to study, and a new principal full of new ideas. Our art consists of wood turnings, with an emphasis on fine art vessels & functional bowls as well as usable birdhouses and ornaments. All the wood used for these pieces is gathered by the artists’ from various sources both in Ohio and the Southwest US. We only use trees that have fallen or have had to be removed for various reasons. We recycle forests into art. The wood is rough turned green and then left to season for one to two years before the piece is finish turned. We use either pure Tung oil or food grade mineral oil with beeswax to finish our pieces, thus making them non-toxic and safe for any use. We have a strong commitment to being caretakers of nature. We give new, beautiful life to trees after they have ceased to be growing plants. See less

Inspired by the Dryad (nymph of the oak) named "Egeria" of which Sir James George Frazer writes in chapter XVI "Dianus & Diana", of "The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion", 1922... All metal is wonderfully detailed yellow brass, with the acorn caps being vintage. A single freshwater pearl acorn dangles in front of brass oak leaves. The color of pearl ranges from brown, & bronze to golden yellow. If you have a preference, let me know and I will try my best to accomodate. Handmade (by me) brass earwires are coated to prevent tarnish & possible skin irritation. Sterling or goldfilled earwires are available at a small added charge of $2 upon request.
