When my mom was pregnant with me, one of her good friends made a whole slew of homemade felt Christmas decorations for her as a gift. I grew up marveling at the uniqueness of them and always wanting to make more. Sadly, around 10 years ago they all got misplaced in a move resulting from my parents' divorce. I'm so sad sometimes when I think about it! But I'm bound and determined to make my own set of decorations for my brand new family (since I'm getting married in February). Very simple hood and scarf combo that will save your neck, ears, and hairdo this winter. A great beginner project or gift (after you've made yourself that is :)) You will need about 1/2 meter each of the lining and shell fabric. The fabrics can be anything that will not be too stiff for the scarf or too uncomfortable to wear around your head and next to your skin. I recommend jersey knit, fleece, fun and faux fur, recycled sweaters, corduroy or flannel. There are many many possibilites. There is no reason why the lining has to be the same or different from the shell - its completely up to you. The scoodies shown here is of a polyester knit (but not very stretchy) and faux fur: Step 1: Cut two hoodie pieces of shell fabric Cut two hoodie pieces of lining fabric For the hoodie shape, I highly recommend strolling over to your closet and pull out your favorite hoodie and simply tracing the shape (and adding seam allowances). Cut out a front and a back for both the inside and outside of your dress. You can just use a pattern for any baby/toddler size jumper dress. 2. Put the front and back of each dress together with right sides facing. Sew the right side seam on one dress and the left side seam on the other. 3. Open the dresses and lay one on top of the other with right sides facing. The sewn seams will line up in the middle and the fronts and backs of each dress will line up. 4. Sew the dresses together at the bottom. I leave a 2-3 inch opening in this seam to flip the dress back to right side when it's done. If you do not leave the hole here, you can leave one... See less

A couple of people have asked me if I use a pattern for the little bags I sew. Not usually, but the bags are generally adaptations of one basic design. I thought I'd share that design in case anyone is interested. First, cut out the fabric! You can cut out either one piece where the fold would be the bottom of the bag or two pieces (you'd have to cut out two pieces if the pattern in the fabric goes in one direction; otherwise, the design would be upside down on one side of the bag). I use 1/4" seam allowances, so if you want the finished bag to be 5" wide and 7" tall, your one piece would need to be 5 1/2" wide and 14 1/2" long. The example is one piece, folded: You will want to cut a lining as well. It will be the same size as the exterior. Stitch the sides of the bag, right sides together and using a 1/4" seam. Also stitch the bottom if you cut two pieces instead of one. Next, you will sew in the corners of the bottom of the bag to create a flat bottom. Grab the bottom corner and... See less

Here goes, I'm going to try and do this but my computer keeps crashing, if there are any glaring errors I'll put them right asap. Here comes a poor quality photo again, I still haven't sussed out what's wrong with the scanner. Enlarge to whatever size you wish, just measure the length of baby's ( or Mama's ) foot. Cut 4 boot pieces and 2 sole pieces as shown. Now do the same for the lining. The easiest way to do this is to lay your fabric right sides together, and then pin and cut out together. Pin and stitch the sides of each boot ( right sides together) And then stitch the boot to the sole as shown, don't forget to mark the front and back centre points on the soles - it makes it a lot easier to position correctly. Now turn under and press a small hem at the top of each boot and it's lining. Now slot the lining into it's boot with wrong sides together, Finish off with a decorative stitch to close and maybe some yo-yo's. There's a great tutorial at Heather's. I suspect Mummy's have... The world needs more cute! Make your own Wee to join these gals. Trying to explain how-to is not my strong suit so hopefully this will all make some sense. You'll need fabric for the body, face and bottom. Weighted filler and stuffing. Embroidery floss and trim. Print out the pattern. It's on a 1" grid. (Note on seam allowances. Your seam allowance will change depending on how big the trim you use is and how much of it you want it to show. How the base will fit onto the body will be determined on how big the seam allowance is. Sometimes the base and bottom with line up exactly, more often the base will be larger. This should make sense once you get going. If in doubt, just fudge it. That's how I get them done.) Pin the trim to the inner edge of the right side of one of the three sides. Sew trim to side leaving as much of the trim to show as you'd like. (see note above on seam allowances) Do the same with the trim on the other side.
