(11/14/10) Deep down, inside our bodies, lives the soul. No one has ever seen it, but we all know it's there. There is a 'soul bird' who lives inside us all. This special bird opens and closes the drawers of our soul, in which we keep all our feelings. There are drawers for our innermost secrets, but also places where we hide away our happiness, anger, joy, jealousy and sorrows. The soul bird has the keys to these drawers, and can open them when we ask. But sometimes the soul bird seems to disobey our wishes, and tolerance turns to fear, or calm turns to anger. Perhaps we don't listen to our soul bird often enough. Indeed, some of us only hear it once in a lifetime. We should try, maybe late at night, or at another time of peace and quiet, to hear the voice of the soul bird, and listen to what it is telling us. Michal Snunit's "The Soul Bird" has been translated into 25 languages and has been a bestseller around the world for ten years since its first publication. This celebration edition...See less

(11/14/10) It seems that John Burningham has never forgotten what makes children tick and this wonderful fantasy with a green' message is perfect. A little boy goes to bed and dreams of going on an amazing journey with his pyjama case dog on board none other than his own toy train. Inspiringly illustrated, with more than a hint of Turner, the train sets off from the city and passes through all kinds of weather with frequent stops to play ghosts in the fog, swim in the sea, fly kites in the wind, muck about with umbrellas in the rain and more. The fun part is that each time the train stops another endangered animal climbs on board to be met with the inevitable Oi! Get off our train'. In turn, each animal is allowed to stay, having explained why it must leave its own habitat--the elephant because someone wants to cut off its tusks, the stork because the marshland were it lives is being drained, and so on. When mum comes in to wake up the little boy for school she tells him the house is full of...See less

(11/14/10) This parent-teacher guide features the ancient and powerful art of storytelling to illustrate the yogic philosophy in finding both personal and world peace. Combining 26 stories drawn from varied faiths and cultures - African, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Native American, and Sufi - with the rewarding practice of yoga, this handbook provides a foundation for expanding children's listening, literacy, and communication skills, as well as their physical fitness and self-confidence, resulting from the execution of the yoga moves themselves. A set of ready-made lesson plans urges a self-reflective practice for children and provides suggestions for follow-up activities, meditation, and relaxation in addition to the incorporation of the yoga poses with the retelling of the stories. A series of photographs facilitates an understanding of each yoga move.See less

(10/28/10) With over 300 recipe ideas and many wonderful stories from the fruit garden, Tender: Volume II A cooks guide to the fruit garden is the definitive guide to cooking with fruit from Britains finest food writer. When I dug up my lawn to grow my own vegetables and herbs I planted fruit too. A handful of small trees - plum, apple and pear - some raspberry, blackberry and currant bushes and even strawberries in pots suddenly joined my patch of potatoes, beans and peas. These fruits became the backbone of my home baking, the stars in my cakes and pastries and even inspired the odd pot of jam. More than this, I started to use them in new waysSee less

(11/14/10) Library Journal - Starred Review, July 1998 This book offers one more success story of a parent who refused to believe her disabled child could not be helped. But more importantly, it is a handbook for parents that demonstrates the use of centuries-old yoga practices to benefit the special-needs child. Sumar's program, which she teaches throughout the world, draws on yoga's philosophy that intellected, mobility and the senses are interdependent and that improved development in one area affects all areas. The book includes a glossary, case reports (including that of Sumar's daughter) and clear, step-by-step instructions with illustrations. It also includes important dos, don'ts and medical precautions. The success of Sumar's program has been documented in education and psychology journals. An importat addition to any special-needs collection. --KellyJo Houtz, Giffin, Auburn, WASee less

(11/14/10) This simply illustrated handbook is suitable for the absolute newcomer to yoga practice through to the experienced teacher. The asana are illustrated in simple drawn figures, showing a variety of alternatives for individual postures. Unlike many other instruction books on yoga with intimidating photographs of beautifully held postures, this is by no means intimidating. It promotes total comfort in practice, enabling practitioners to find their way and enjoy the journey of yoga practice. I thoroughly recommend this book, a basic handbook that all yogis should have.See less

(11/14/10) How This "Butterfly" Came To Fly Greetings to you! I am Shakta Kaur Khalsa, the author of "Fly Like A Butterfly: Yoga For Children". I am very pleased that you are interested in my book. It shows that you care deeply about the quality of life for your children. And that makes me happy. I have been teaching children's yoga since 1981, when I became a Montessori teacher. I had been practicing yoga for many years myself, and realized that children could effortlessly reap the benefits of yoga, as long as it could speak to them. So in my classroom, I created a fun, imaginative style of yoga that had children hopping around the room as"ribbiting" frogs, hissing as cobra snakes, and balancing on one leg as tall trees. The class would then culminate in a dramatic change of energy. These children who had just been robustly exercising would lie down on the floor totally still, eyes closed. I would then give them the tools to paint peaceful, relaxing pictures in their minds and hearts. Their...See less
