I love this place. It's cheerful, and it's fun to walk around and look at the food stocked on the shelves while I wait for my food to be prepared. The steamed yuca con pollo is delicious, as is the ayote en dulce (sweet squash) for a side. To top it off, I love the atol de elote (thick drink made of corn); I sprinkle it with cinnamon, and it's thick and warm, perfect for a fall evening.

I love injera and vegetarian Ethiopian food. The dishes are more stewed, and I've noticed the meats look tender. The honey wine is super sweet and delicious. You eat at a round tables without silverware, and the waitresses will show you how to fold your food into a piece of injera and feed you (at least she did with one of my friends the first time I ever went). If the hostess looks like she wants to sit you downstairs, definitely tell her you want to sit upstairs to get the full Meskerem experience!

The sushi!! I cannot rave enough about the sushi. It may be because this is the only place I've ever been that offers $0.89 sushi--yellowtail, tuna, salmon, ebi, tamago, whatever your pleasure! My husband and I love to come for happy hour from 4-7 PM and pig out on the sushi. Our bill is never more than $40 for loads of the fresh nigiri, cosmos, tom yum shrimp, and edamame. Located in downtown DC near on 19th between M and L (near the Farragut North and West metro stations), the atmosphere is charming--colored scarves decorate the ceilings, and the waiters are very polite. But it's the sushi and the super low prices that keep us coming back again and again!

I love Indian food, but I'm very picky about the quality of chicken served. This place is the best Indian restaurant, hands down. They serve white meat chicken not overcooked or underspiced. The naan is thick, and the sauces are the right spiciness. A little pricey, but well worth it.

I just love tapas and sangria, and Jaleo offers the best of both. It's always packed full of people hanging out at the bar, and without reservations, the wait can be over an hour, but it's well worth it. I just love ordering a bunch of tapas to share with friends over a pitcher of sangria. Best way to spend an evening after work!

I've hosted two events here--a book club meeting and my 30th birthday party. Both times the service was terrible, the waitresses talk amongst themselves instead of paying attention to the customers. But, and this is a BIG but (let's talk about your BIG but(t), Simone ;0) the food is delicious and the ambiance cheerful. Painted in bright yellow with colorful terrazzo, this restaurant offers a fun to place to meet a bunch of friends and chat over sangria and tapas. It offers many veggie tapas for vegetarian friends, as well as meaty tapas and entrees for the carnivores. Near a pretty neighborhood of the DC, it's a perfect place to meet friends before heading out to a bar or dancing in Adams Morgan.

Um, yeah. I don't know what to say about this place, it's almost beyond words. You've never had pho so delicious as at Pho 75. Several years ago a coworker took me to the Falls Church location for my first experience. It was really quite different--we sat at a community table and grabbed chopsticks and spoons straight from the table like you would with napkins. The guy who seats you is the same one who takes your order, which is basically pho with either different types of beef or pho with chicken breast (my favorite). Then another guy brings out a dish of fresh herbs, lime wedges, jalepenos, and bean sprouts, and then a couple minutes later, out comes a huge bowl of steaming soup with rice noodles and meat in broth. So filling and so amazingly refreshing! One of my grad school friends interviewed the manager, who related that the restaurants are set up just like you would find in Vietnam. There are several locations in Maryland and Virginia, as well as the original locations in Philly, so I definitely recommend that if you're in the area, stop by for some mighty tasty pho.

Now, reserving your table at Maggiano's Little Italy is easier than ever. Simply choose your neighborhood Maggiano's from the locator map and select your preferred date, time and party size from the options on the detailed restaurant page. It's easy!

Highlights: Chevy Chase 5333 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC, 20015

Through MyPoints.com, I rack up gift certificates to Maggiano's so my husband and I can afford to eat here every few months. Not that it's outrageously expensive, but it's just expensive enough that it'd be hard for us while I'm in grad school to eat here as much as we like. So when we go, we feast like kings! We get a u-shaped booth so we can sit and watch the other diners and allow ourselves to be pampered for the next couple hours. The mussels in Tuscan sauce (white wine broth with cannelloni beans) are so savory, and the olive oil used with the bread is so tasty and fine. (In fact, I've gotten so spoiled that I don't like the taste of olive oil at other restaurants--Maggiano's is just that good!) My husband always orders the lasagne, which comes out in this towering portion which he just loves. I used to order the angel hair pasta and shrimp in a spicy arabiatta sauce and would have enough leftovers to last me at least 5 days. The last time we went I decided to branch out, and now I'm in love with Rigatoni D: Rigatoni pasta, herb roasted boneless chicken, mushrooms and onions, tossed in a light Marsala cream sauce. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!

I wouldn't eat pizza for years simply because I never found a pizza that I absolutely loved--maybe I burned out from eating it every Friday night when I was a kid. At least that's how I felt until my husband and I moved to Silver Spring and found delicious pizza within walking distance. The entrees are delicious, too! The bread that comes with the entrees is not so great, but I highly recommend the garlic rolls. They're these little balls slathered in olive oil and garlic. So tasty!

Sunday brunch could not be better than at Le Chat Noir. Located in a pretty little neighborhood in Northwest DC, Le Chat Noir has a delicious brunch menu with your choice of appetizer and entrée or entrée and dessert along with champagne for about $20. The eggs Benedict are cooked to perfection, and the buckwheat crepes are amazingly savory. I love to sit in the front room where the sun shines in, and the atmosphere is lovely for a brunch with friends or quiet evening with your date.

Located deep in the Maryland's Montgomery County suburbs, Cuba de Ayer is a bit of a drive from DC but well worth the trip. The food is as delicious as any place in Miami. My husband, family, and friends especially like the ropa vieja, and I really like the lechon. And the tres leches? Yummy! The croquetas are okay--you only get 4 small croquetas, and we're used to paying the same price for several at Cuban window stands. However, the other appetizers are well worth the price. Cuba de Ayer even offers vegetarian black beans, which I've never seen before and my vegetarian/vegan friends love. Definitely check it out!

I cannot possibly rave about this diner enough. My husband try to eat here at least once a month, and some months I know we managed at least once a week. I have never had a better French toast (super thick sweet challah bread that's soaked in batter) and grilled cheese (your choice of bread, ham, bacon, and tomato). I finally tried something else recently, the eggs Benedict, and that was scrumptious, too. Excepting the sandwich, the portions are huge and you'll take home leftovers. Lately my husband branched out from grilled cheese and now gets the chicken gyro--the chicken is tender and succelent, and the tomato and cucumber salad on the side is always fresh. I have no idea how they get tomatoes that are ripe no matter what the season. And the desserts! My gosh, what an absolute sugar rush! We always take friends and family here, and everyone raves about the diverse menu. Definitely visit when you're in the area!

Although I've never eaten inside the restaurant myself, my husband likes to take his friends and family when they come to visit. It always seems a little too crowded for me. However, what I can tell you about is the food. So many things to chose from! I especially like the turkey dinner complete with stuffing, fresh cranberry sauce and your choice of side (I love the spinach). My husband loves the barbecue, stuffing, and mac & cheese. Parkway also has a large deli case where you can pick and choose your sandwich toppings to go. Yummers!

I've been coming here ever since Dixie Bones opened in 1996. At the time I worked across the street, and I'd eat there at least once a week with my coworkers. Now I drive the 45 minutes to Woodbridge solely because the barbecue is just that good. My husband and I especially love the baked potatoes. I don't know how they do it, but the potatoes are always huge (double the size of potatoes you find in the grocery store) and stuffed with sour cream, cheddar cheese, chives, and lots and lots of pork barbecue. We smother the potato with sauce and go to town, totally stuffed by the end (if I can manage to eat it all--it's always mighty tasty as leftovers!.

Okay, I admit it. I don't go here for the barbecue. I'm addicted to the cheese fries (without the redneck fondue for me, please). You've never had cheese fries this good, I guarantee it. I don't know how they do it, but the cheese is never greasy and it melts into this creamy over perfectly toasty french fries with a dash of seasoning. Oh so yummy! My husband loves the soul rolls, and if I ate red meat, I probably would, too. I like to get a side of collard greens to go with the fries so I don't feel so bad eating them. ;0) The pork barbecue is okay, it's moist but without a ton of flavor. The crabcakes are delicious, and if they broiled them instead of fried them, I'm sure I would get them more often. If you love cheese fries, definitely make the trip to Rockville to get you some!!

I love coming to Teaism at Penn Quarter every month for my book club meeting. I'm not a big fan of sitting in the windowless downstairs room, but the upstairs never has enough room for a group. That's just how popular Teaism is, for good reason. I love the lavender lemon mint tisane, but my favorites are the tuna bento box (seared rare tuna & wasabi sauce with broccoli, sweet potatoes in a yummy sauce, and a rice ball topped with this savory sprinkling of I don't know what) and a chai shake made with ginger ice cream.

I think it's made with soy milk and ice rather than ice cream, which is just as well since I could easily drink these every day if I lived within walking distance. I grew up in the neighboring county and my parents would treat my brother and I to Carl's at least once a month in the summers. Carl's soft serve ice cream is a Fredericksburg tradition dating back 50 years. In the past few years, I've seen it mentioned in "best ice cream" TV shows and magazine articles. Every time I go, it's hard to choose between the chocolate milk shake (my mom's favorite) and chocolate ice cream in a cone (my dad's favorite). When my best friend lived nearby, we would always visit Carl's--she loved getting a cherry and root beer shake--I used to think she was crazy, but she certainly knows how to be creative in mixing different flavors. My favorite way to eat the ice cream (or drink the shake ;0) is to sit on the curb across the streets at the old Fredericksburg hotel and people watch.

This place cracks me up. Every time my husband goes in, the ice cream server gets annoyed with my husband's slow decision making and barks at him to hurry up. I liked to call them the ice cream Nazis. I, on the other hand, have always gotten stellar service with a smile. I used to think it was because I'm a girl, but after reading some reviews, it seems like the servers are not gender biased. Anyway, I go in knowing exactly what I want--the Key West, Key West, "an inventive concoction of chocolate ice cream, chocolate chunks and orange juice." So yummy! I love to lick my ice cream cone while people watching on a bench in Dupont Circle. Best way ever to eat absolutely delicious ice cream!
